Any Transmission Maintenance Needed? 3 Years, 1 Month ago
Reminder: I am no wrench

Questions just came to me because of recent posts, but is there any kind of routine maintenance that needs to be done on our transmissions? I see nothing in the maintenance schedule, and I know there's got to be some kind of fluid in there, right?

Thanks again, in advance, to you gurus.

OK, for some reason, I didn't put the wet clutch together with the tranny. Thanks, Pop,

I know what your talking about Soba. I saw in the other thread where someone mentioned not pulling the trans plug. I have no idea what he's talking about.

Probably have folks confused with all this talk ....

The transmission is on the left side behind the clutch. It's part of the engine ... the same oil used in the engine baths the tranny.

The transfer case is on the right side ... the long chrome case by the rear foot pegs. It's not part of the engine and has it's own oil.

Sometime folks call both ... tranny.

So your saying that all that is oil related are the two areas that come to mind.. #1. the engine/transmission oil and #2. thefork oil. Those being the only oils to change and replenish. Roadstar transmissions seem to like synthetic oil...?? I used Mobil 1 in my FZ1 and there was an increadable transformation in engine noise and transmission charictoristics. The shifting was silky smoothe and the overhead cam noise (though very mimimal) was reduced to barely percievable.

This is a very old thread, but to answer your question No there is more than 2 - there is the engine/transmission oil, the transfer case oil, fork oil, and brake fluid. Oh and don't forget about the riders oil A.K.A. a cold beer while he changes all the aforementioned fluids.

Thanks, it was the 'transfer case' that you saved my rear on. Somehow I suspected, or somewhere browsed over it while reading, and it stuck in my head that there were two things to adress, might'a even read it here on tech articles..

Yes trans maint is taken care of with oil change but dont forget the tranfer case that should have an oil change once in a while too.
