More good stuff. That will be at the top of my list of things to do when I return State-side. I miss my bike...

I think I'll do this mod when I have the tank off to install the other throttle cable Sunday. Went for a long ride yesterday to use up the gas...Well, let be real about this...I went for a ride because the sun was out, it was Friday and I had the day off, and by the way, I used up most of the gas in the tank before getting back home. Back roads in rural NC are sweet.

Unable to find the thread about changing out the fuel sensor. Ordered one from the Stealership and now time to install it. Are there detailed instructions on here as to how this thing is installed? I've spent about an hour so far this morning searching to no avail..
Thanks in advance for any help.

Scotto---where are you?? are you military?? and if you are--thank you and all others like you that protect our freedoms here in America---but this new president---I don't know----but back to the thread---I haven't punched my filler neck yet---but I will this weekend---My low fuel light comes on early---a 1999 Silverado, but I usually go by milage--at about 175 miles I refuel and walk a little bit to get some blood back in my legs and ass (usually put in about 4 gallons)---I still haven't hit my reserve---maybe I have the fuel petcock set to reserve all the time!!! Question about that fuel petcock--is the longer side pointing to what you want??? Ronnie in MD VROOM VROOM---warmer weather is comming---ride hard but safe and like someone here said---ride like you are invisible---defensively-- and always have an option out--next lane over or the shoulder---or just gas it and pass them all!! wooohooooo

Do a search for "Sending unit". You should get all the info you need.

1. Drain fuel
2. Remove the tank (see the tech article on that).
3. Replace fuel cap and flip tank over on a towel so you don't scratch it.
4. Two 10mm bolts holding the unit on to the tank (the fuel sender has wires coming off that leads to that green plug you unplugged to get the tank off). Remove the bolts (save the washers and bolts, + you should save gasket too in case something happens to the new one (long story ). The sender itself you can toss.
5. Replace with new unit as in the same fashion you removed. Make sure you use the washers you saved. Put bolts on. Do not over-tighten.
6. Replace tank, fuel line, refuel and that's it.

Not including tank removal and replacement, the actual removal of the sender and replacement should take about 5 minutes.

I have an 03 Silverado; light comes on around 160 - 165 miles, main runs out about 170 - 175. Carrying an extra gallon(just in case)I went to 204 one time.

The long end of the valve knob points down on the main, and points up on the reserve.

I did the mod last weekend and will fill the tank in a day or two. Punched three holes with an old awl. The metal is pretty soft for sure.

Punched four holes in the neck tube two weeks ago. Very easy. Filled the tank and set the trip odometer and rode. At 200 miles the low fuel light came on but went another 15 mile to a gas station. Took 4.3 gallons to fill back up. That comes to 50 mpg. Must have been close to needing reserve but didn"t. Not bad.
