sounds like you got it and the o2 sensors, hard to understand why they would not want them hooked up in the first place, go figure...

glad it works now we all know how to fix it for the next guy............

PLUG IN THE O2 SENSORS, LOL

Re:Power Commander III 3 Years ago
Guys,

I sent two Power Commanders back for this problem. I too figured it out because removing the PC did nothing, I still had the problem at fixed throttle. But when the O2 sensors were connected, no more issue.

Two other things I found out.First the Map that most of use that is made for Yamaha is way too rich, it is called a 12.5, use the other map for the Roadstar with same pipe/air cleaner assy. Secondly according to folks at Cobra USA they pulled their Fuel Processor for these issues.

They told me that Yamaha Roadstar FI is totally different from ANYTHING. They were aware that Power Commander had issues as well.Cobra USA re-engineered their product to work with the O2 sensors in a closed loop, but product has not been released yet.

This comes down to Yamaha not doing its homework. They recommend you buy their drag pipes with the O2 sensors (which I did) they also recommend the hi-flow speedstar air cleaner (which I did), and the power commander3 ( which I did). Then the power commander says to disconnect the O2 sensors. WTF?

I had a 2005 Roadstar with same pipe/air cleaner it ran PERFECT. This Roadstar runs like crap. I am totally disatisfied with FI.

I've been running my setup on my '08 for months now and it works great. Speedstar Dragster pipes with O2 sensors, Speedstar/K&N BAK and that's all.
No need for the PC unless you like spending alot of money to buy headaches! Yamaha got the computer right, and it adjusts to the pipes and BAK.

This has been an interesting topic for sure. Glad you got your bike figured out. I'm still confused as to why my Roady is running great with the pipes and Power Commander and no 02 sensor. Soon I will get the K&N installed and see if it make any difference. maybe you just got a bad unit.

Just changing the pipes does not make as big a difference as going to the BAK. That will probably make a change in the PC a must, but you still may hit on a good setting. Soon after getting my '08 last summer, I coughed up the bucks for the factory service manual. Under the troubleshooting section for the fuel injection etc. it showed that almost all problems are fixed by cranking the bike for a sort time, turning it off and restarting it, which allows the computer to reset to the current equipment and conditions. It has worked great for me, saved me $$, and hopefully keep my warranty intact. Good luck!
