Re:Pipes for 08 FI 3 Years, 1 Month ago
Does anyone know where to get bungs, or this size and thread of them so I could find some? My dad has been looking for some and has been having a hard time getting his hands on them. Last order he had was cancelled due to a 25 day back order.

I was wondering would something like this work? Just not sure of the size and thread of the sensor.

Home Depot or Lowes... Take one of the O2 sensors with you. They'll be in the Metric nut section...

Re:Pipes for 08 FI 3 Years, 1 Month ago
I bought a new 08 Silverado about 6 weeks ago. I bought the Shogun Interceptor pipes for it and installed the bungs and o2 sensors myself. Everything works fine on my bike and I really love the way it sounds. I looked at Lowes and a few other places for the nuts to use as bungs but didnt find them. I happend to be looking at O'reilleys a few days ago and I think they had the correct size. If im not mistaken they are 10mm but I cant remember the thread pitch on them. I used my dremmel tool and cut the bungs off of the stock pipes. The stock pipes still have threads so they are still usable in case I ever want to use them again. I mounted the new pipes and decided where I wanted to put the sensors and removed them then drilled and welded the bungs on. I put them as close as possible to where they were in the factory pipes. For the o2 sensor on on the back cylinder I had to cut and splice the wires in order for the length to reach the plug. Like I said my bike runs great and and sounds awesome!!!!

My 2 cents worth. My wife has 1300 V-Star with the Speedstar pipes on it and a Cobra FI2000R. Thing popped and backfired like crazy. Didn't matter what I did to the settings. Unhooked the O2 sensors and the popping stopped. Bike gets over 50 mpg.
Bought my 2008 Roady with a set of Roadburners on it already. I ordered them ahead of time. They were pre "08" Roady pipes. Had a Power Commander installed a little later on and tweeked it a bit. Roady runs very strong and gets 40+ mpg. As for the o2 sensors , left them off. The O2 really adjusts to the conditions outside. Leaving them off is the same as running a carbed model. It's set where it's set right ?

Not exactly.

We (2008-2009) have an air temperature sensor that adjusts for atmospheric conditions. It's just near the front of the tank. It's about 1" long and has a wiring plug attached to it. I broke mine, so I know right where it is...

My understanding is that the 02 sensors are just that. Oxygen sensors that monitor exhaust gas / temperature. Not sure it really matters what the outside temperatures are in there...

Personally, I'd make sure they are installed and working. I'm sure Yamaha (and your warranty) would like to see them there. Don't know what the long-term implications are if you just disconnect them. Hate to see them void a warranty for such a simple fix.

The O2 sensor monitors the exhaust stream and feeds back to the computer. The computer then varies the amount of fuel.

Without the O2 sensor you're running in open loop mode ... WOT.

Rich;
I understand what you are saying and really I don't disagree with you but if I compare it to a pre fuel injected model. They have a fuel setting that does not change at all without a manual adjustment of the needles so if I get the mix right with my Power Comander then I should be right in the same ball park as the carbed Roadies I would think. I agree that I may at some altitudes loose max power but the carbs are in the same boat right ? As for warranty the owner of the dealer I go to advised me to go this route and he is one of the better Yamaha dealers. I know him well and trust his judgement. I may wrong but I will watch the spark plugs. The bike is running very well.

Scooper
