how to fill the tank all the way up 3 Years, 1 Month ago
|
|
|
i know this sounds stupid as all heck but today my light came on on my 07 roadstar 1700. The gauge said almost E. so i filled it up, i got 3.4 gallons in it and it was up the spout. I even tried leaning to the left so i could get more in there but that did nothing. Now the gauge says i have 3/4 of a tank.
Any ideas?

yeah i know that's what threw me off. it only took 3.4 and it spit out the top a little bit. but the needle was on E and the light was on.
Do you lean the bike at all when filling up or do you just sit on it streight up and fill it up?

Lean it over on its sidestand. Full is full. It should go to the top of the tube that you see inside the gas tank. I never push the nozzle all the way down into the tank. I keep an eye on the level and fill the bike slowly.

Leave it on the stand and fill it up. The fuel gauge needle takes a bit of time to register the change.
If it's not up there after a couple of hours your gauge may need to be 'reset' or fixed.

The tank hold 5.3. About a gallon of that is reserve. So around 4.3 before it says empty. That's assuming you had the whole 5.3 in there to begin with. Which you probably didn't. This mod helps get the tank more full. - Neck punch

Oh yeah... I forgot that, too: It takes 1/8-1/2 mile for the gauge to climb, once you've filled the bike.

If I fill up when my low fuel light comes on, it takes about 4 - 4.1 gal. leaning on side stand. Ratl.
