ais and backfiring 5 Years, 2 Months ago
hey fellas,
I am going to order the ais removal kit and I have read that it will reduce some of the backfiring during decel. I removed the baffles out of my V&H short shots yesterday for sh*ts and grins, it I liked the sound but it did pop a lot. Will ais removal help with this backfiring, or do I need to keep the baffles in for good back pressure? Thanks

Hey jet

The AIS will help with some of it. You might have to go out a little on your PMS too. Try it with the AIS removed first then if you need to tweak the PMS. Go a 1/4 turn at first, see what happens, and go from there. You might not be able to get rid of all of it but you might get it down to a level you can live with.

You have to take off your carb to get at it the first time so you can drill the cover and pull it off. After that you can do it on the bike. If you don't want to get in to it that deep see how just taking the AIS off works for now.

You can loosen then spin the carb over to get at the pms brass cover make sure you drill the right one it is farthest from the bowl and is inside a "rise".....if you remove the carb you have to reset the throttle position sensor "TPS".........Coug

Post edited by: Cougar, at: 2007/03/06 16:19

You can do it right at the bike and you don't need to disconnect the TPS. I didn't anywho. Works fine.

I never tried spinning the carb. Gee that sounds easy.

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2007/03/06 16:28

Well ya coulda clued me in about just spinning the carb before.

I'm guessing you pretty much have to disconnect everything like you would if you were taking it off except the don't take it off, right?
