2006 Road Star (27 miles) can't get it to start.. 3 Years, 1 Month ago

Hello,
I've purchased (for payoff *deal*) a Road Star with 27 miles on it. My neighbor bought it (impulse) road it home and has not been on the road since. We can't get it to start and was running 3 months ago. The gas was drained and new plugs installed, fuel lines cleaned as well. Still no start, the strange thing is that it's making a knock noise on the upstroke I think...
Got any ideas of what we can do?
Thanks

when you turn the key on dose your fuelpump start clicking ,check the kill switch, kickstand switch,
i'd check all than pull air cleaner squirt some gas in the carb and se if you can get it to pop off.

Have you checked the battery? Should read at least 12.8v with engine off. Might need to have it load tested.

Havent checked any of that yet..will do on Saturday though. It just makes a weird noise as it's turning over like something is hitting in the engine at the top of the stroke...

Sounds like a dropped valve. See if you can hear any rush of air from the exhaust or the air inlet for the carb/throttle body when you crank it. I wouldn't crank it any more than you have to, if it is a dropped valve the noise you are hearing is the valve hammering the top of your piston. 27 miles huh? What year model is it?

Clean the old plugs and put them back in, the new plug might be too long and hitting the top of the cylinder. If you have cranking, and you have fuel, then it's spark or air. there isn't much else to check. You have to turn it over, have ignition (Spark) gas, and air. One or more is missing.

Probably to old for warranty unless it has the extended on it. I agree with Darn. But when you pull the plugs crank it over without the plugs in it to blow out any gas that may be in the cylinders. But if you have fuel ,Spark , And compression it will run. So your missing one or more of those items. And when you check the spark see what color it is. If it's yellow it's not good.

My 2 cents.... I discovered a good way to clean carbs several years ago when I forgot to drain the carb on my lawnmower over the winter. I took the carb completely apart, removed all the gaskets, and immersed all the metal parts in mineral spirits. After a week, I took them out and blew them dry with an airhose, re-assembled the carb, and it ran fine.
