Re:Possible wheel swap solution? 2 Years, 6 Months ago
Doc;
I know this thread is old but I have new information. I did this mod today using a cast from a 2004 roady to my 2008 spoked . It all bolts right up and yes the spoked wheels have been upgraded to have the same bearing set up as the cast now. I did not need any different spacers. My cush had a different part number but that was for finish only . I went to this site to compair and it confirmed about the spoke wheel changes
.http://www.babbittsonline.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/default.aspx
Hope this helps those that want to swap spoked wheels to cast and have a 2004 or newer Road star.

Re:Possible wheel swap solution? 2 Years, 5 Months ago
Hey guys just thought since this was originally my thread Id give a update. Like I stated the swap was pain free and fairly easy with just a little head scratching. Its been over 9 months since my mod and Ive had zero problems. Ive put about 5000miles on the new set of wheels and they look and ride great. I had mine powder coated before installation. I have finnaly bought a new belt and am getting ready to swap to a pulley that matches the wheels. I know ther has been alot of confusion over this issue... mainly because we are talking over the internet. I think if we were all in the same garage looking at a bike it would clear up alot of the questions. Just remember half the fun of mods is figuring it out and doing the work yourself!!!

I know this is an old thread but I'm considering swapping my 05 cast wheels for wires. Looks to me that if I use 04 and up wires that its a straight swap eh?

Re:Possible wheel swap solution? 1 Year, 5 Months ago
Ok, I'm thoroughly confused now,let me see if i got this right ....it seems that on an 04' and up ,it's a direct swap,However I am attempting to swap a newer (04' and up) to an 03',I have tried my old wider pulley on both cush drives(my original and the one that came with the wheel) and still no luck,I know someone on here said they had the same problem I did ,and I'm sure there are more,I am obviously missing something,and the bearing setup is definitely different,,I want to figure this out before i even bother looking for a front wheel,any help would be GREATLY appreciated,Thanks in advance ,and everyone have a great holiday

one more thing,the cush drive is not seating all the way,and the distance that it's not seating,is how much i'm lacking

The cush drive for the 03 and the 04 are the same part # also the rubbers inside the cush drive are the same part #. Try putting a little grease on the rubbers when you install them and you may have to use a piece of wood on the cush drive and hammer it until it seats. The only difference in the pulleys is the width the part numbers are the same except the first three charters. IE: 4XX = 03 5XX = 04.
