The clutch plates are bathed in oil. When you leave the bike for a while (overnight) the plates dry out and stick. It's worse the longer you store the bike.

Re:Starting in gear 3 Years ago
I sometimes have to roll the bike slightly when starting it in gear. It seems to depend on where the stroke is at the time. If it should happen to lurch when I hit the start button I need to roll forward a bit or it won't start. If I pop it to neutral, it will start everytime.

As far as parking in gear...ALWAYS...and to start another over done debate...gas is always left ON!

Talking about sticky clutches due to being mated over the winter, would it be advisable to use a zip-tie to very slightly disengage the clutch for the winter? OR would both sides be dry then and be a worse situation?

I always park mine in gear. Have seen, too many sportbikes blow over in the desert wind from being in neutral. Now with the tricky air ride the stand is so damn long I've got to find just the right spot to put it so it leans enough. Profiling is such a constant business

I would not do that .... just leave it in neutral.

a lot of R* people report the bike is grabby when started in gear even if sat only an hour or 2 like mine does sinse last run. it's just the nature of the beast.
solution is to grab the fbrake and hit the throttle when you start er up or choke it a bit and use both brakes! cause mine will just hold too good and wants to lug right off. it's like the clutch takes a set from sitting so much that i have to neutral it so as not to load the starter circuit too much.

the bigger starter and a heavier wire to it would maybe even let me push jersy barriers out of the way!
