I bought it new and even had two of the mechanic's at the dealer take it for a ride and they both said they could not hear anything.

Yeah, they seem to hire deaf mechanics, don't they?

I had this same problem with my '07. I got some sticky back felt and put some on the top tabs in the headlight bucket and on the frame between the belt guard and now the chirp is gone and so is the rattle on the bumps. Hope that helps

Hey abdouty,

Can you elaborate on the "between the belt guard" thing? Where exactly did you put the felt. I assume you did it to stop the "clanking" sound from back there. Right now, I have the guard removed, but I'm looking for a way to re mount it if I can keep it quiet!

Thanks,

MS07

On the swing arm there is a weld bead that hits my guard when I hit a bump in the road. I just put a piece about a 1/4" square right on the inside of that weld bead and bingo. No more clank.

Sometimes your front brake pads will make noise also.
Try putting a little pressure on your front brake when you hear it and see if it goes away.

Tonight on a ride, I tried touching the front brake when I heard the noise and I'm about 98% sure that's the problem. Is there a fix for rattling brake pads?

I used a piece of self adhesive VELCRO (the fuzzy side) between the belt guard and the weld on the swing arm. Problem Fixed.

I put a small piece of duct tape on the guard where it taps against the swingarm. It's the most forward vertical spot on the guard. FINALLY, no more banging. A split piece of vacuum hose or vinyl hose might even be better.

Lion - I think he was kidding. Kidding about how if something is difficult or tricky to pin down, how a mechanic, especially a dealership mechanic will deny its existence just so they don't have to tackle a difficult problem. Goodness man.....chill out.

Hello LionRstar06,
We hear you loud and clear but have to let you know that the use of "deaf mechanic" is / was certainly not meant to offend. I think a deaf mechanic could be defined as simply someone that refuses to listen or hear an annoying noise from a combustion engine and seeks payment before finally hearing this particular noise! If you are a hearing impaired person, as millions of people are, you should be aware that many of of riders are thankful that we are able to use our sense of hearing to keep us safe and certainly have the outmost respect for those that ride and are hearing impaired. So on behalf of all members of this forum, I would like to extend the olive branch and apologize and make peace with a brother that is brave enough to ride while hearing impaired. I don't think I would have the balls to ride without my sense of hearing.
