Re:First Bike question 3 Years ago
Hey guys,
This is Chris, John's son. I agree with all of you, believe me. I've ridden Enduros (street legal dirt bikes) before with friends.. Up to a 650cc. So I've got some experience. My dad read all of your responses and looked at me and just said that if I was older/had more experience he would be okay with that. I'm trying to convince him that i would be fine. I was at a dealer today and saw a 650 sitting right next to an 1100, and the differences were very little. I have confidence in myself, and I'm pretty sure I would be fine with that big of a bike considering the 650 isn't that much smaller at all. Any persuasion techniques toward my father would be greatly appreciated
Thank you for the responses!
-Chris

Best all around bike for a 21 year old college boy is without a doubt a Kawasaki klr 650 that bike can and will do anything. Simple and bulletproof, 60 mpg. with a 6 gallon tank, still carburated and easy to do your own work on, plenty of aftermarket (to upgrade), at home on the trail or the highway. Hell the military uses it outfit its troops. I'm 44 years old and considering buying one myself. Brand new is $5,500.; believe it or not there are mountian bikes (yes pedals) that cost more then that.

If it were strictly between the Vstar 650 and the Shadow 750 , I'd wholeheartedly tell you Shadow 750 10 out of 10 times. My wife put 35,000 trouble free miles on her 04 Shadow 750 in 2 years , and the power was good for a 750. Her girlfriend had a Vstar 650 classic those same 2 years , that thing was so gutless , I got cold sweats watching her merge into traffic.

I love the Star line , but I'd have to steer you away from the 650 personally......BB
