Hi all you air sucker modders, let me help out a bit.
first off in that
carb pic with the yellow circle's, the fuel bowl has a vent and this winter down in FL mine just after i parked it leaving the key on the thing puked a little squirt of fuel, so it's there just as stated a bowl overpressure release and in cali it has to go to a fuel recovery box so the vapors can get sucked into the engine BECAUSE raw fuel is actually less environmentally friendly than exhaust. well i spill more gas on the ground than the bike purges so eliminate it if you like but you can run a hose off it to dump down instead of splashing off the lifter tube.
the fat hosed piece (other yellow circled part) at the top of the carb is a vent aswell, sinse the
main jet s vaccume controlled, the other side of the diaphram has to be vented and the part is like a
pcv valve just to keep dirt out of that section AND to slow the jet from returning closed too quickly (reduces potential backfiring due to an overly lean situation.
that hose off the rear head (2 of them), the fat one is the crankcase vent, in a car it goes to the pcv (positive crankcase vent) valve and for emissions purposes can go to the intake or just use that auto parts breather filter like the little red one in the earlier pics, on a harlie it's called a puke can. during piston travel the crankcase is under pressure or vaccume and thus needs to be vented to atmosphere and 'filtered' to prevent it sucking in dust. yama seemed to prefer doing it atop a cylinder instead of lower at the 'block'.
next time i take off the tank i'll remember where that other hose from the rear head goes!
oh and
BTW, adjusting the main needle jet is pretty easy, but you gotta take the tank off....
oh yah my R* keeps right up with any Victory!
yep an 03 R*, 04 cromed wheels, bunch of stuff, inverted beach bars, wimmer super sucker intake (plated 24K)!
