trip to tail of the dragon 3 Years ago
hello all. Us and 4 other bikes are going to ride from terre haute Indiana to gatlinburg Tn. . We are going to split a huge cabbin . We are going to ride the tail of the dragon . Im very stoked because ive always wanted to go to the tail and also this will be the longest trip on my bike, bout 7 hrs to get to gatlinburg. Before the longest away i have went on my bike was 3 hrs away. I know some of you have went to the tail. Would love some personal advise. Would also love advise on riding long distance. I have been planning. I put new rear tire on, got helmets (we dont have helmet law in indiana) changed oil, changed sparkplugs. anything else? Thanks a bunch.

My biggest regret was not devoting the whole day to the tail Deals Gap. There were lots of places I should have pulled over and took it all in - but I was with a group. We drove 100 miles to get there, cruised through - turned around and cruised back, then rode 350 more miles - STUPID. It is too gorgeous.

You'll like it... it is crooked but it is a very good road, and well maintained. If you want another good ride... get on teh Blue Ridge Parkway..... if you aina't road it... you will like it. Another good ride is North on NC 16 all the way through the Coal Mines of W VA. After you pass Marion Va, hwy 16 is so crooked it makes the Dragons Tail look like a Drag Strip.

There are lots of good rides south of the East end of the tail.

What kind of funny noise is it making? Usually if it is making noise, it is working. Like kids, when they are quiet, worry!!

It looks like you have a Mustang seat, that is good. 7 hours won't even make these bikes breath hard. Wear sunscreen, take a camera & raingear. I wana come too!!!

Yea i have the mustang seat. Some of my friends suggested i get some of those sheep skin seat pads. what do u think? As far as my pump goes, u know the sound it make when u turn the key on and the pump pumps up? well sometimes when riding or sitting still it will start making that noise. its not because it was low on fuel, because everytime it does it i usually have bout half or more. The bike doesnt run any different. it will do it for a few minuets and quit or it will do it at start up, but its not like starting it for the first time of the day where it will build up and quit. it will just keep going. Just thought it might be trying to tell me something
