Wow! 3 Years ago

Well, I've come to the conclusion that there's either something really wrong with my bike or the oil companies really plan to put it to us this summer. Last fall (Oct & Nov) I was averaging 43mpg. So far this spring I've been averaging about 38mpg.
Yesterday morning I filled the tank and rode down to my dad's place (88 miles, all divided highway at 65-70mph). This being the first all highway trip I've taken on the bike, I was looking forward to seeing how good of fuel mileage I'd get on the open road v. in riding town and on back roads. Well, I topped off the tank before coming back this afternoon and it took 3.21 gallons. That's a measly 27.4mpg. My dang car gets better mileage than that!

Hmm... I went out for a 150-miler on Saturday and averaged 43-44 mpg. Maybe we have better gas in MN? LOL - I doubt it. Someone here has an answer for ya!

Dave .... you're not going to get good gas mileage tooling around 6000 feet at 90 mph.

Down in the sunny south, we're getting 10% grain alcoholin our gas... My car got stopped for swerving the other day... and it couldn't pass the breathalizer test...! As a matter of fact... it can't even pass a gas station any more... I've gone from an honest 24 MPG to a flat 20 MPG (same gas, same trip, same everything...) Except, I'm paying 50 cents more than I was six months ago... The bike, on the other hand is down to 35 MPG just after I got my 16K tune up too! I'm going to the Hoem Despot and going to start buying laquer thinner and mineral spirits and make my own fuel...

Gas without 10% ethanol is non-existent in these parts and has been for awhile. I could see that kind of mileage drop if I was riding into a 50mph headwind the whole way, but the wind was fairly light yesterday morning when I was on the road. Today's ride home was a totally different story though.
Personally, I think it's a conspiracy being put on by the oil companies to make up for the profits they're loosing due to the slow economy. They aren't selling near as much gas, so they're just cutting the quality of the gas to you have to use twice as much to go the same distance.

it wasn't big oil!!it was our federal government that mandated 10% ethenol in our gas.besides,if you go out and get a big gas guzzling truck like i own ,it will make you appreciate the 30-42 miles per gallon on our roadstars.
