EFI & aftermarket pipes,intake 3 Years ago
To manage the many problems that EFI Roadie owners face when changing pipes and intake . The Cobra FI 2000R is a small wonder. Smaller than most cell phones it works and it works well for any exhaust and any air intake set up. I have the V/H powershots and open K/N filter, I had it set up in a couple of short rides. The bike sounds incredible and performs better than any cruiser bike I've ridden. They have great help @ Cobra if you need it and if you can't get it straight ask themm for Rick's number he designed the unit and is glad to help. Thanks Cobra

I own an '08 RS and have speedstar dragster pipes and K&N open air intake and I don't don't have a clue what problems you are talking about. The Yami EFI computer automatically adjusts to the new setup as long as you have pipes that allow the O2 sensors to remain hooked up. That is one of the beauties of the Yami EFI. Unless your wallet is just to heavy, I suggest you put the stuff on the bike, crank it and let it run about 20 seconds, turn it off and when you crank it back up it will be automatically reset to the new intake and exhaust.

Same experience. I don't know of what problems that are being referred to, either.

Ah ... there's the rub.

I don't believe the Powershot has the O2 bung .... so no sensor.

Doomed should be able to clarify.

I would like to put some new slip ons on my 08 RS because the stock ones heat up so bad. I think they are a catalytic converters. The dealer sent me a Warrior service manual instead of the Silverado manual and I understand that the two machines are totally different in many ways. My question is where are the O2 sensers located. I suspect from reading the Warrior manual that the Warrior has a closed loop system with no O2 sensors because there is absolutely nothing anywhere in the manual about them or a location for any and the Ymaha manual is a very detailed manual. yet on this forum there is several comments about O2 sensors on the 08 RS. Sooo! having expounded all this rhetoric (I apologize) can slip-ons be used without monkeying with the elusive O2 sensors.

Scud:

You migh want to mount the pipes and mark where the 02 sensors wire up to. Mark them low so you won't easily see them when installed.
Remove the pipes and have the bungs welding where you've marked them.
Re-install the pipes.
Twist in the 02 sensors.

Most shops will probably do it for around $40.00

Again, "bungs" are just stainless, metric nuts that the 02 sensors twist into. Give them one of the 02 sensors so they make sure the bungs are correct before welding them on.

Good luck.

The O2 sensors are mounted pretty far forward on the header pipes, so slip-ons souldn't affect them or visa versa. Look under the bike at the header pipes and you will see the sensors or at least the wiring coming from them.

I work @ Yamaha dealership in sales. The two chief mecanichs have over 80 years of experience. They have been going to Yamaha school for over 15 yrs and when I told them about the Yamaha computer automatically adjusts to the new set up they couldn't stop laughing. It's not in a service manual, owners manual nor has one Yami teacher ever said that.

Maybe your mecanichs(?) ought to read the Factory Service Manual (LIT-116-21-68) section 7 entitled "Fuel injection system". In this section it shows that practically all EFI conditions that do not involve a defective part are "reinstated" either by turning the switch on and off or cranking and letting it run for a short period and turning it off. I'm sure they have this manual handy and you can read it for yourself.
Aside from all of that as others have said and I have experienced first hand, that is all that is required.

Many of these aftermarket 'fixes' for problems that don't exist remind me of other products that have hit the market in the last few years, like colon cleansers. All they seem to do is lighten the wallet and often end up being nothing more than a pain in the A$$.
