I would think that mid 40s should be *normal* for you, depending on your driving habits.

I have an '02 and got 43MPG at my last check about 8 days ago. I'm happy, but I think I can do better with proper carb tuning and good atmospheric conditions - 50+ MPG - like Curt got recently.

Re:advice on bummer mileage? 2 Years, 11 Months ago
It all depends how you ride it.
I'm getting 20+ MPG with a 2009 chevy crewcab with a 6 liter engine. I drive it pretty easy. But other guys I work with get about 18-19 mpg. One other guy runs the snot out of his truck and gets only 14-15 MPG. I never let my truck's tach go above 3,500 rpm. Some guys redline their truck all day, and their fuel bills show evidence of it. Their brake jobs are frequent too.
Big blast-offs from stoplights are detrimental to econmomy, wind resistance and high speed are the two other great factor that really suck the gas.

I ride my Roadie pretty easy some days, and it is not that hard to get 68 MPG out of her. Other days I'll get 50 something out of her.
(Imperial gallons we are talking here.)

I just stopped yesterday and filled mine up with 101 miles since the last fill. ( Did that so the math would be easy for me ) Any way all I could get in her was 1.8 gal so guess I am doing ok.

Ya "pay to play". Solo, anywhere from 26 to 36.
With the wife, 36 to 42, did get 49 once with a tail wind and 65 mph.
With the trailer and riding double, 35 to 38.

It varies with the game

I don't agree. I think that we should be getting mid-40MPGs at least. (That might be a different situation on the injected models.)

It would take some tinkering and fine tuning your set-up like some of the guys have done here. You could end up with low to mid 50MPG.

I'm satisfied right now, but want to ride - not tinker. Some of the guys here know what I went through last August thru October with SVS and carb joint leaks when I got my new (used) scoot.

I'm working on a project with a set of heads and will tinker when I swap them out.

Just filled up today... 179.8 miles, and took on 3.74 gals. for... drumroll, please... 48 miles to the gallon! That was almost all up and down through the gears, rarely seeing even 50 mph stuff. I'm pretty pleased with that!

Re:advice on bummer mileage? 2 Years, 11 Months ago
Everytime you move the throttle ther tiniest bit (carbureted models) while riding, the accelerator pump spits a little extra fuel in there.
The best economy I get is whil using the Break-Away throttle locker. This way the throttle stays put, and my hand movements do affect the throttle position during long highway hauls.
If you're constantly moving the throttle over several miles, this can affect your economy a bit.
