#201758 compman (User) Fresh Boarder Posts: 5 Great cure for SVS! 2 Years, 11 Months ago   Just had a case of SVS in my 03 Roadstar, was kind of bummed to think about having to tear down the motor at the beginning of riding season. Had a friend of mine that works for a dealer told me about a fix for this problem that is quick and easy, Yamalube additive, "ring free fuel additive" I put 8 ounces of this in with a full tank of fuel and hit the road,,, with in 50 miles I could tell it was already working, I just completed the tank of fuel and the recommended oil change after what they call the shock treatment, I must say it is a lot easier than a motor tear down to repair, all for about $40.00 for oil and additive!   Logged     The administrator has disabled public write access. #201763 DocShadow (Admin) Hmmmm .... send beer Admin Posts: 17615 Re:Great cure for SVS! 2 Years, 11 Months ago   There are many other additives than Ring Free that you could have used for much cheaper. I had to do the same thing when I first got mine, and I still do it at the end of the riding season. Like Doc said, there are a number of different additives that will do the same thing. If it happens again, dump a whole can of Seafoam fuel additive (about $7 at Wal Mart) in a full tank and drive it like you stole it...like you're MAD at it! Hit the rev limiter a lot (which you should do anyway). But once that tank of gas is gone, the oil change after a shock treatment is MANDATORY, no matter what additive you use. Good job! Moderator Posts: 12515 Re:Great cure for SVS! 2 Years, 11 Months ago   Hate to tell you this but if you got SVS once you will get it again unless you change something. Believe me I know! SVS can be caused by lugging the bike around town and not going on extended highway trips at speed of 60-70 mph. OR your jetting is off and needs to be corrected. I have found that a good 200-300 mile run every few weeks keep it purring one you get it cleaned up. It only idles when it is running the hydraulics on the post pounder. I give a good flooding with Sea-Foam "Deep-Creep" spray, run it a bit, and then change out the BLACKENED engine oil. Seems to do the trick. I think around these parts, these air-cooled motors run too cold, and never really get hot enough to burn all that carbon crap out.   Logged     A Fallen Man is not a failure.   The administrator has disabled public write access.
