Self Studded Bags 2 Years, 11 Months ago
Has anyone else studded their own bags? I recently added a new Mustang seat and decided to go with a studded one. Everything else on the bike was plain. Before shelling out big money for studded bags, I decided to try my hand at a little leatherwork. I got about 40 bucks wrapped up in chrome studs and tools and I don't think it came out too bad for an amateur like me! I studded the plain stock backrest, the trunk bag and the saddlebags to match the mustang. Hope the pic loads.

Looks just fine by me! Where'd you find the stuff? I wanted to do the self-studding, and places like Michael's around here didn't have anything.

My seats and backrest are studded, but my bags are not, and I'd like to make them match.

Found the studs on E-bay from a seller called dks222. They are called Texas Studs and come 100 to a bag with the tool to set them for 20 bucks. I was kind of worried about the quality and if they would rust or not, but they looked pretty good when I put them on. They were chromed both inside and out. I figure I'll give them a good coat of saddle soap to help seal them up and hope for the best.

Go to any leather crafts store like Tandy. They should have all the tools and supplies for any leather project.

No Tandy or leather craft stores around these parts, unfortunately. I'm having to go on-line for it.

I studded my own tank cover... first one I've ever seen studded.

Here is where I got the studs from: http://studsandspikes.com/buy/stud-large-1-2-dome-bag-of-50.html

Saw some in the J&P catalog but that's a much better deal.

In my much younger years I use to do upohlstery and I had good luck with finding studing materials at Hobby Lobby or a local fabric outlet like So-Fro Fabrics.

Hope that helps.

Looks like you "studded" your own driver's seat when you put that cutie on the back seat!!
