Honestly I wouldn't worry about it. I have the short shots and ride in the rondacks a lot.
The checkpoints seem to be aimed more at the events and and places large groups of riders will be, remember they have to be cost effective.
I've been through Elizabeth town many times.
I like to get on 9 going out of Lake George and just ride north till I'm near the border.
