The problem is not only the oil company's but the gas stations too
today oil is at 72.00 a barrel but that is Octobers crude prices the owners of these gas stations are watching this and increasing prices accordingly Junes crude prices were 35.00 dollars a barrel which would have made the prices 1.45 a gallon that's what we should be paying right now at the pump the gas stations themselves are ripping us off as much as the oil company's if every one in this country stays home for 3 days don't go to work or drive anywhere it would cost the oil company's billions in lost revenue, and all the company's would be bitching so bad at the government because all of their workers are not showing up for work due to the gas prices, that the government would have to take action against the oil company's and force them to lower the prices and put a cap on them and then get rid of the speculators who are driving the oil up out of greed , get rid of them and the lobbyist and put strict rules on wall street and our country will work again

There are 38 individual "summer blends" for different EPA controlled emissions zones. your Kalifornia blend is not acceptable here in DFW. We have our own, as does Houston, and San Antonio. Boutique fuel causes high production costs.

Also, here it Texas, we are taking it in the shorts on electricity. go to bloomberg energy and check out the spot price per KWH. Houston ERCOT (Texas' benchmark) versus Palo Verde (Socal Benchmark). Our electric wholesale price is 50% higher that the Free People's Demokratic Republik of Kalifornia! Thanks to the Texas state legislature for DEREGULATING our electricity and creating fair market speculation, I mean, competition for electricity. Sure, you can shop your rate around and get 5 percent less than TXU rates, but people in Cali still think I have a crazy high electric bill, even if my modest home would be worth 4.8 Mil if it were in Carlsbad, due to the 3.5 acres it sits on, of course!

Lots to ponder! I agree that the oil companies have cut back production to inflate the cost of oil so THEY can maintain their profits (they would never ask for a bail out).

The cost of gas/oil causes the price of everything to go up, making it hard to afford to buy anything and further hurting our economy.

Last year I bought my RS for me and a moped for my honey and traded in her Van for a Chevy Aveo (34+MPH on Highway) I also know how supply and demand works, and the oil companies have become greedy and it will hurt them in the long run, we are NOT using more fuel according to reports, we are driving less and using less for heating.

Alternate fuel had become the hot topic, I've seen hundreds of windmills go through our rail system each month. Solar is popular and you can even get money back from taxes plus if you produce more than you use, you can sell it back to the Power company.

It's going to be interesting over the next 5 -10 years to see how this plays out.

Now that its clear what the oil companies, the gas station owners, and the speculators are doing to all of us! what are we gonna do about it ?

It wouldn't bother me if someone went down to wall street and dragged the specualtors outa there and beat the hell out of them!!

Our goverment should do something about this period! but the lobyist and their money have them on their side and theres not a damm soul on ours in washington!

This will drive this country into a depression unless we demand that the elected officials do something about it.

Yoy can't really lump the station owners in the blame game. They are simply adjusting their price based on what there suppliers charge them for gas,they don't have a crystal ball and sit their and dictate what the street price is going to be on gas. In fact lets say a station owner gets a load of gas (usually around 6 to 8000 gallons) lets say he pays 2.40 per gallon then sells it on the street for around 2.49 . Then the price goes down to 2.39 on the street a week later he has to lower the price to be competitive so he lost a penny per gallon on what he has left in his tank . Owning a gas station can be a gamble at times,but I assure you the station has no horse in the gas price race he is just selling a product that he has to pay for just like us.

Be careful what you ask for...they DID do something about GM & the banks & the mortgage companies...and now your granchildren are guaranteed to be in debt, and we have a Pay Czar to regulate pay of executives with companies bailed out by The Anointed One.

I, for one, do NOT want to be buying USA Brand gasoline, pumped by federal employees...

Does anybody really think that domestic drilling will drive down gas prices? If the supply goes cheaper, the gas companies will keep their prices and pocket the profits. When gas prices were near $4/gallon last summer, I saw an oil industry expert on NBC news trying to explain that gas prices aren't the oil industry's fault. During his explaination, he was explaining how the industry needs to make some percent profit per dollar of gasoline sales. Sounds reasonable until you realize that its per dollar of sales ... not per gallon. That means that gas companies make twice the profit on $4 gasoline than they do on $2 gasoline ... which explains 2007s record oil company profits. Would they give up that profit margin for the good of the nation? The oil companies are in business to make money, and that alone, and lower cost domestic oil won't convince them to temper their prices for the good of all. The price of gasoline is greed driven ... period. No amount of government regulation will change that. So drill domestically if you want to, but it won't drive prices down.

If we could find a way to remove greed from human nature, then we would be all set too bad that would never happen
