Speedometer Accuracy 2 Years, 11 Months ago

In the thread about tire size, backinthesaddlewrote Also your speedometer error is actually closer to correct with the 160.
I have heard that the speedometer on the metrics are usually 5 to 7 mph off. I haven't checked mine, but do the rest of you find this to be the case?

Just about every bike you buy has that quirk. Search through some old threads, I posted a link to an article explaining why. It was before yesterday so there's no way I can remember why now.
My wife's Camry is off by 4 mph according to my GPS, I didn't reveal that to her though.

Mine was consistently registering 3 MPH slower than the GPS; once I added the 31-tooth pulley, I am now consistently 5 MPH slower than the GPS. Since speedos are marked in 5 MPH increments, it's much easier now to look down and know how fast I'm really going...
You could get a Speedo Healer, but even when I HAD the $100 for one, it wasn't worth it to me.

A couple of our school zones have radar setups and when I go through at around 50mph, I consistently see 46-47 in the radar display.

Mine has been consistently off since day 1. Not a big deal as long as you're aware of the difference.
However, this also ties into your odometer. After my last trip which I read @ 3400 miles, my Harley buddy read it @ 3300 miles. It appears the incorrect speedo is also putting additional miles onto our odometers.

I'm 8 to 9% off and since I don't want to do math while I'm riding I just go with my GPS.

By law mfgs are allowed to be off by a certain percent on the speedo. But they get nailed if it reads slow so they cover their backside and make sure they read fast. That's what I think I know anyway...
