No one has yet to tell us WHY it's off! I hope the LEO's radar is calibrated by the Motorcycle Speedo Mfg's. Wouldn't that be fun

Have you tried searching the net for regs and laws? Called the DMV maybe?

I'm not sure what they will say other than you are required to obey the posted speed limits and it's your responsibility to ensure your equipment is "Accurate".
I think my best bet would be to call the MFG or the dealership?

You may get a ticket for going too slow on the interstate but you wont get one for speeding because of the speedo if it is lower than the actual speed..I would like to hear about your gps findings on the odometer as that should be your legal leg to stand on if there is one as far as the warranty goes since you have to sign an affadavit when you sell stating the actual mileage I would think. Also the speedsensor is set up to count the revolutions of 5th gear and I think it uses a transducer to detect the revolutions .Since it is an electronic device they use +or- 5% as a rule of thumb for accuracy in electronic readings and since the scale would be 0 to 120 mph then 6mph would be 5%off anywho thats how I see it my math sometimes sux so jump in anybody and correct me ...Coug

I did a test with the GPS today and the speedo is 5 mph faster than the 12 Sats that were tracking me. I lay my faith in the GPS.
On a side note the milage is off by four miles every 100 on my odometer. Basically it's 1 for every 25. This is the second test like this that I have done so I am fairly certain that my 17,000 miles I currently have on the Star really should read around 10,200. Now if I can only convince the next buyer with that data.
Better recheck your math on that. It's a 680 mile difference, not 6800.

Numbers are relative. That is why they quit putting numbers on car gauges if they have gauges at all.
People didn't like how HOT the engines were running, so they put a "green" area to tell you is is relatively OK.
Electronic guages are too slow to give you any accurate info also. By the time your TACH says you are turning to many revs, you will probably already know.
Just my 2 cents

ALL stock speedo's [and to a large extent tacho's/ rev-counters] are "optimistic"
now the manufacturers would argue that if a customer/owner were to fit slightly larger tyres then the speedo would "under-read" and said owner would be speeding when the guage said [for example] 50 mph in a 50 zone.....
now in reality manufacturers also realise that bigger numbers sell bikes/cars.....have you noticed that speedos always over read [not under read] i rest my case......
its interesting to note that some speedos exagerate more than others... a few examples ive experianced are...
gsxr1000...... 186mph indicated, was an actual 168 mph [GPS VERIFIED]
and.....
hayabusa.....220 mph indicated is actually a real 198 [thats over 20 mph optimistic]
of course it may be good for bragging-rights down the pub, but for those that actually know the truth, its not even worth quoting speedo readouts
