WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!! YOU GUYS ARE FRICKIN AWESOME. WELL, I WILL START HERE. WHAT HAPPWNS IS, AFTER I TAKE OFF ABOUT A QUARTER MILE DOWN THE ROAD AT APPROX 50 I WILL HEAR A HALLOW SOUND WITH A A COUPLE OF BACK BIRES FROM MY PIPES. AND THE BIKE WILL RUN LIKE S@$T DURING THIS TIME. I WILL TRY TO DOWN SHIFT AND GIVE IT MORE GAS AND SOMETIMES IT WILL STOP SOMETIMES IT WON'T. EITHER OR IT ONLY LASTS FOR ABOUT A MIN OR 2 WITH SOME INJECTION PLAY. SO WHEN I LET MY BOY WHO WORKS AT THE DEALERSHIP RIDE IT HE SAID MY VALVES ARE STICKING. SO HE PUT SOME CLEANER IN THE TANK AND I UPGRADED TO 97 AND IT DID FINE FOR A GOOD WHILE. THEN JUST LAST WEEK IT DID IT AGAIN. HMMMM........

the cleaner will help the symptoms but it doesn't help the cause..you probably want to try curt's procedure and then be sure the carb is dialed in..

Well how will I id this? It does seem to run like a scalded ape. I have had her to 120 and was still pulling strong just ran out of nerve and have a 160 tire on rear so speedo should be close. Also if I ride like a sane person I get around 46 mpg. I know some people say these bikes are slugs but either I got lucky are they don't have there's set up right. Anyway didn't mean to high jack here so maybe try this on the bike that's having the SVS symptoms and don't use the 97 octane gas. Your just wasting money and guys here have said that using 97 can contribute to SVS because this gas is designed to burn slower.

Disregard my carb settings as I've just learned I have a different carb. However don't use premium gas as your bike is not designed for it.

You have a 1600 so it's unlikely you have chronic SVS like some 1700s.

The cleaner will work but you need to rejet ... you are running too rich and that's the crux of your problem ... the SVS will keep comming back.

I would advise checking out your carb and doing the choke knob trim. Once you have you carb properly tuned I doubt you'll ever see those symptoms again.

I sometimes have SVS in the spring if I've run the bike over the winter without througly warming it up and using the choke to much. It is quickly taken care of buy doing an in-carb top end cleaner treatment.

Seafoam or Ringfree in gas. Directions are on containers and you can get at Auto parts stores. Do the shock treatment and change oil and some people use a couple ounces every other tank of gas after the oil change. Used the Ringfree myself for a while but haven't used it since last year because I have been fortunate not to have to. Some say to hit rev limiter also every ride to keep carbon blowed out. I do use this practice because I can't help myself. Also only 4 quarts at oil change as some say to much oil can also cause SVS.

In-carb clean ....

Remove air cleaner

Start bike and put in high rev

Spray the top end cleaner into the carb throat but don't let the engine stall, continue for at least 30 seconds.

Lower revs and spray cleaner to stall engine.

Let stand ... overnight is good.

Start bike and be prepared for backfiring and flames for about 1 -2 miles.

If still runs rough, repeat process.
