Re:HIgh Output Stator/Rectifier 2 Years, 11 Months ago
Well, my '04 Roadie stator fried couple of weeks ago. Took it to an electric motor rebuilder here in Houston and he would charge $300 to rebuild, but only to the same spec, and he hates to do them. One of the 3 legs (wires)measured less than 1/3 the other two only with the engine running(before I removed it). He put it on a stress tester and one leg was grounded and the other two looked flaky too.

My questions:
1. Has anyone actually replaced an '04 Stator with an '05? If so, are the screw holes the same and will it fit properly?

2. Anyone know the real specs on the Rick's Motorsport Electic Stator, how long it's been in use, and have you or someone you know used one?

3. I'm a little leary of the Eletro Sports model, however potent it will be, due to it seemingly being totally re-done at present, and it will not have a track record for a while.

Thanks for any help guys....I'm getting withdraws and want to get back on the road!

The 05 to 07 stator is a direct swap. You will also need to get an 05 / 07reg/rec. The newer stator will fry your 04 reg/rec. Don't know about Ricks but it seems like the after market stators just bring it up to the same specs as the 05 / 07 Yami stators. Could be wrong though.

I searched the forum and never found a definitive answer, yes or no...are the Warrior stators interchangeable with ours?

Thanks,

Don't know what the output is on them. I've read that the plugs are different but it's still 3 wires so maybe the plugs could just be changed. You would need a warrior reg/rec too I think because of the EFI. Or maybe the reg/rec off an 08-09 Roadie would work. Or maybe I'm in way over my head. Sounds like it would be easier to just stick with Roadie stuff unless the Warrior kicks out a lot more juice and you need it.

Didn't answer a single question did I?

Nope.

But that's OK...all part of your undeniable charm. And at least you took the time to ponder the question, which is always appreciated.

I have an '04, and up until a few days ago I didn't realize I had the same charging system as a 1600. I figured all the 1700s were the same. Figures I'd get the one "off" year...

The reason I asked is because there seem to be a lot of used Warrior stators for sale cheap. I guess more people wreck the faster bikes, so more salvage available...

yes the 3 wires are all the same output just 60* out of faze from each other. it does not matter the order you have them connected, so the connector can just be cut n spliced.

I need to replace my stator and regulator. what sounds like a good price for labor only to have them both installed?

I'm not the most savvy bike mechanic, but I can follow instructions fairly well. Clymers makes the changing out of the regulator look pretty easy so I plan on giving it a shot. However, the stator looks like too much for me, so what would you guys consider a fair price just to replace the stator only?

I buy the parts and have a mechanic put them on at his house.
