Picking up my '04 R* tomorrow! 2 Years, 11 Months ago
Figured I'd register here and see what I can learn. My bike is a R* Midnight with drag bars, long-shot pipes, bags, lights, and two backrests. It only had 5600 miles on it, and appears to be in good shape. Anything in particular I need to know?
Thanks!
Andrew

Regular gas only.

These bikes love RPMs. They hate being babied or slow stop and go.

Don't use the choke any more than you have to.

Don't let the bike sit an idle for more than a minute. It better to warm them up riding.

Hit the rev limiter once a ride.

If you want to ask any questions about how your bike is running we need to know what you have for a an air kit and your jetting.

The only way to tell what your jetting is is to open the carb unless the PO can tell you.

If you take your bike to a shop and they tell you what needs to be done don't let them do it until you check here first.

Don't take your bike to a shop.

There is no "Best" oil.

SVS isn't that common. Don't jump to that conclusion too quickly.

Awesome! Thanks for the advice. BTW - I was planning on taking off the driver backrest, but after a quick search here it seems they're fairly well liked - especially for people with bad backs (2 surgeries here). It's just a pain in the a$$ getting on the bike with it on, though.

Best,
Andrew

Stand next to the left side of the bike and grab your right knee with your right hand as you lift your leg.

Lift your knee and place your foot over the driver's seat and mount!
