I can't believe I read all 4 pages of this post. I think "I'm" gonna puke! I have only had 1 occasion that I experienced puking which was after I cleaned the carbon build up. So, I'm not going to touch anything unless it catches fire at a gas station (like on that other post). In which case, I'm going to get an 08 or newer as a replacement. No more puking, jetting, or having to read long posts to see if they apply to me. LOL. I can only pray that the gas station it happens at hasn't checked the levels in their extinguishers in a year or so. Sounds like we should all sign a petition to make yamaha fix this concern since it obviously happens to all of us with 1600's and 1700's. Maybe yamaha will buy us all larger float bowls, heat shielding, 2.5mm float valves, high flow fuel filters, shielded fuel line and give us 50 bucks for our old fuel pumps.

Head a similar problem at BBB with all the stop and go trafic. Went to dealer and exoplained i could smell something like ceramic. He walked out and reached below air breather and wipe an almost clear residue with his finger and said is this it. I said yes and he said the crappy gas is Ark has lots of Ethenal in it and I was boiling it out of the carb over flow. Got back to MO and filled with gas and smell went away.

Thanks I guess it is back into the carb we go. I will try to take some pictures this time so we can have a more substantive discussion.

Update on the adventures of the carb float level. I went in about 2 weeks ago and adjusted the float level to 1mm below the mating surface at the rear of the carb. I have noticed no change in overall performance, but interestingly there is a much stronger gas smell after I shut the bike down and I have noticed that it smells kind of rich when running. I cannot figure out how the float level would affect the mixture, but I have a new bug hunt now trying to figure out why my scoot is so smelly. Also got to replace the steering head bearings at 27,000 miles. Pretty disappointing
