Helmets 7 Years, 1 Month ago
I'm a new rider and need some help here if ya can.
I am selecting a helmet and would like your help in deciding the type to buy. I think I should favor a full face becuz of it's full face protection. On the other hand a 3/4 looks a little kooler on the RoadStar. I also like the Shoei ST-Cruz half helmet for it's looks. I think that I would like a 3/4 of full face for the noise protection on the while riding, as my half helmet is kinda noisy but I also like the wind and sun on my face!
I can spend as little as 40 bucks on a full face but I feel like my head and face are worth more then that;at least $250. How do you set a price on the noggins pertection? Whats too much or too little? Is it less or more comfortable to wear one or the other? ok that's it what are your thoughts?
Thanks ahead for your replys.

Ook I think I got it...no wants to comment on helmets.

It's optional in my state but I'll be wearing one at least for the first year, while it is not optional for new riders.

It was fun to post anyway.

It,s kind of like your tires or carb what ever turnes you on
after a while you get used to slaping the old skid on.
I sure there will be times when you will think I sure
glad I had that thing on.

I missed this one ... I love to post about helmets. One of my favorite subjects, especially with the cruiser crowd. So many passionate opinions.

I used to roadrace (not the street type, the track type) I was also a punk street fighter before that. Gear is very important and a full face is the best protection you can have. I too wear an open face about half the time on my cruiser (other half full face). The speeds are lower and I am not usually in traffic on it. It is a bit risky I know, but at least I have my noggin covered. My wife, daughter and son are all required to wear a full face on my bike with me.

I recommend a new rider where a full face helmet. It never hurts to have the extra protection (I am a little surprised your first bike is a 1600cc twin tho) as far as price .. find one that fits compfortably. THEN look at what it cost. The fit is the most important thing. I have buds that just cannot wear the high end helmets because they do not fit them well, and end up in DOT/SNELL approved helmets for half the price.

Post edited by: CRASH, at: 2005/04/19 10:36

Thanks for the replys guys. The full face is my first choice and a half for just a leasure putt down the street. The size of my bike was ment to slow me down because I am much more the cruiser type of person. I also did not want to feel like I had to move up to a larger bike too soon and it gets me out of harms way fast enough. I think the Star is a great jumping board for a custom job also witch I would like to do.
I have enjoyed riding it and I love the looks of it too. More rain then I care for this week and snow by the weekend!!!!!
Cincy area weather is nuts!!

Thx again,
