Deadhead:

If I were you, I'd check a couple of things.

1. Did they remove the AIS system? It's on the front of the bike, near the rectifier. It connects to little chrome tubes that attach to each cylinder on the LH side (as you're sitting on it).
2. Did they install the 02 sensors back into the pipes? They twist in on the backside of the pipes and have wires attached.

If all they did was pipes, and actually removed the AIS, you shouldn't have any popping or backfiring.

Parts 24-36 refers to the AIS system.

The AIS is all gone and the 02 sensors are still pluged in the oem headers, I all so checked to make sure the slip ons were tight at the headers and they are, so there are no leaks in the systems and the baffles are in properly.

I am at a loss, from my understanding the poping and backfire is a sign of running to lean and there is no way to tune the oem FI.

SYF:

Popping and backfiring is a sign of air (or unburned fuel vapor) in the exhaust system.

Pinging is a sign of running lean.

You might want to try this (don't know if it'll work or not). Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery. Press your brake pedal or turn your key to completely discharge the electrical system. Connect the negative back. This may allow the system to completely reset and adjust to your new mods.

Hope that helps ya.

I know some folks will not agree with me but that's ok. My wife had the same problem with her FI V-Star 1300. In her case she did have a Cobra FI200 fuel processor installed. Thing popped like crazy until I unplugged the O2 sensors. The Fuel processor was fighting the O2's. Do not do this with your bike unless use install some sort of Fuel managment though.
I think in your case there must be some air getting in somewhere. I don't think you need any Fuel managment at all.

Rich Did as you said and it is much improved, now it only pops and backfires on hard decel and or down shift but not as loud. I may give it a few days and reset it again to see what happens.

Thanks again SYF

I tried the Cobra FI2000 before I got the power commander, FI2000 only really works above 2000 rpms, so running around town at low r's it won't do crap for you, I took the FI2000 off put on the power commander, and still had back fire. removed the AIS and damn all was good no back fire. I left the o2's in the pipes but disconnected them.

Syf:

That's an old trick we learned on the SuperCharged F150 Lightnings. Some vehicles "relearn" on a hard reset, so I'm told.

An interesting note: Vehicles are smart enough now to tune to your driving habits. Drive it like a turtle, runs like a turtle. Drive it like you stole it, and well... You get the picture. Making the vehicle relearn once in a while isn't a bad thing.

Glad it worked for you.

Well the fix did not last long. The pipes are poping and backfireing as bad as ever so I'm going to take the damn things off and go back to stock pipes and just leave the bike as is. I have had it with FI and 02 B/S.
