Here’s a story of what happened to me a few years ago. It was about 4:30am, cold and raining like crazy. Actually, one of the coldest mornings we’ve had that winter so far. I was driving my pick-up because of the weather was so bad. I pulled into a gas station to fill up and noticed a guy setting on the curb next to the building. He had a raggedy blanket over him and some pretty dingy clothing. Obviously homeless and no place to go. After fueling up the truck, I went in to get a cup of coffee and a donut and decided to get the same for the guy sitting outside on the curb. I put my stuff in the truck and proceeded to take him his. As approached him, I noticed he had his eyes closed. So, I thought he was just taking a snooze and gave him a little nudge on his shoulder asking him if he’d like a cup of coffee and donut. Well, as I nudged him, he slowly fell over to the side and just laid there. Yep, you guessed it, he was dead! I walked back into the convenience store and you should of seen the look on the clerks face when I told him there is a dead guy laying on the curb outside. I waited for the police and let them know what happened. As I was talking with the LEO, I asked him if he wanted the coffee and donut I bought for the guy on the curb. He said, “sure why not, he doesn’t need it now anyway”. Needless to say, I can honestly say I haven’t bought another cup of coffee or donut for a dead person since. But, I have for others I felt just needed a little warming up.

Wow, that was some story. I bet that was kinda weird. One time I pulled in a station to get gas. A guy in a little pickup came over and asked if I could spare a few dollars for gas. He was trying to make it to Denison and had missed his turn in Dallas. He would have had enough gas if it were not for that. He was lost. I talked with him a bit to make sure he wasn't just trying to scam me out of some money. The more I talked with him the more I felt his story was true. I told him a few dollars would not get him anywhere. I walked over to his pickup which was by a gas pump and filled it up for him. He wanted my info to pay me back, and I told him not to worry about, he could pay me back by passing it on to others in need one day. Whether his story was true or not doesn't matter, I did it in good will and that is all that matters to me.
