stopping in the break down lane 2 Years, 7 Months ago
what do all of you guys think of stopping for brakes in the breakdown lane??? i see motorcyclist stopping on the side of the highway all the time just to take a break or mess with something....someone I ride with thinks nothing of it...

I think its very dangerous all i think about is the "cop" shows and cages smashing into other cages on the side of the road....

I don't think it's wise either Jade68454. If it's just a break I'd look for a rest stop or the next exit to get off the race track. Leave it to some bozo who thinks it's funny trying to see how close he can get to ya without hitting your purty scooter.

Agreed. There are plenty of places to stop and stretch or check something on the bike out that are safer than the shoulder on a highway. When I see someone pulled over on the side of the highway I always assume they are having trouble.

I don't even do side of the rode if I brake down. I will push it way off the road. Rest stops are done in parking lots, driveways or some other off the road place.

I am with all of ya on this. If I break down on the highway or any other road for that matter, I try to get my bike or cage as far off the road as possible. If the landscape allows, I will even pull of of the shoulder off in the grass. Too many idjits driving these days to trust my safety to them.

Ditto, seems like people get zoned in on you and head right for ya. It's amazing how many police cars get blasted on the side of the road! Highway Hypnosis If all the cagers had to ride a bike for 2 weeks we would be alot safer.

I think it's like turning a cycle. LOOK where you want the bike to go. They're so fixated on the "broken down/cops" vehicle, that they drive right into it. No way am I gonna park on the side of a highway to take a break w/ cars flying by me @ 60+ mph.

Agreed!

Even if there's nothing right there at the the exit, jet getting off on the ramp shoulder is safer than staying on the side of a highway.

Hi,
Ever noticed what truckers do, I wuz one for almost 20 years. They take the off ramp and cross over the roadway at the top, then pull over on the freeway on-ramp to take a break or a nap. The logic is when a person is exiting the freeway they are probably tired and not paying close attention as opposed to the guy getting on the freeway is starting out after a cup of coffee or just beginning the trip so he is more alert. Also toward the top of the on ramp vehicle speed is not that fast yet.
