My wife sits on a piece of fabric that you line tool boxes with. Keeps her from sliding forward when we hit the bumps in the road. If I go to fast she just smacks my helmet! That's when I tell her the sissy bar is not bolted down and I'm about to hit "warp speed".

My wife's a great rider. That's because I taught her how. She'd never ridden a bike till I came along. I can't tell she's back there most times except at low speeds. If I've got a turnaround to make or need to back up, I have her get off. On the road she's leaned back on the backrest watching the scenery go by, sometimes snapping pics or videos with the camera. If I twist it up through the gears, she's back there hollering woohhoo! She wants one of her own, but right now the finances won't permit it. For now, she loves to ride & I love having her along.

My latest girlfriend loves to ride. She has never ridden until we started dating. I don't even know if she's there unless I put my hand down and touch her on the calf. She just sits back and enjoys the ride. It helps to hae a skinny girlfriend.

For me the bike handles just as well with just me or riding 2 up with wifey, but we have been riding together for over 15 years. I dont really notice a whole lotta difference in handling other than the obvious stuff like a bit longer to come to a stop and not quite as sharp in corning. These are the states we have hit just in the past year on the Roadie...all in all we have logged about 20k on it plus we rode together for a few years on the Venture and 10 years together on the HD...lotta miles.

I always tell my riders:
Keep your feet on the floorboards always
Look over my right shoulder when we turn right and left shoulder when we turn left
Hold real still when we go slow, don't help me balance the bike
Sit back lean on the sissy bar and enjoy the ride
These few suggestions help with new riders and old riders. I sometimes have to reach down and touch my wifes leg to make sure that she is still there.

Women are an extremely important part of a man's mental and physical well being, (unless you're gay that is), and we should make every attempt to integrate them into all aspects of our lives, even if it means taking a little time to educate them on how to be a passenger on a motorcycle. Hopefully, I have attached what I think is a perfect essay an two up riding. I think it calls into question more about how proficient a pilot we are than how proficient our rider is.

Well the essay did not attach, but here is the source. It's an article at Motorcycle Cruiser titled Motorcycling with a Passenger: Double the Pleasure, Double the Fun. Pretty decent, but if you send it to your squeeze, she may do some sole searching before she gets on for a ride.

I agree with Raveon59. And Joker perhaps if you would think of your wife more then how your bike looks and provide her with a good king/queen seat she would not bump your helmet.
I have been married for 33 years and my wife has always rode with me. I personally wouldn't know what to do without her. If you are a good rider it should not matter. I have taken other women friends for a ride and I can understand that sometimes their movement can cause you to wrestle the bike but I
LOVE HAVING MY WIFE WITH ME! She loves being back there riding as much as I love having her. I really feel sorry for those of you guys who feel that you would rather be alone then to have a good women with you.
