What you need to do is what I did and you won't scrape any more!

First, I would still go with a new spring, but I'd go with the progressive.

Second, I slotted the holes in the mounting bracket for the pipes so I could cheat a little on the positioning. If you push them all the way up (stock bracket) they are approximately level, but when you sit on the bike they lower and give you less clearance.

With the slotted bracket holes, you can push the pipes up a little, so when you sit on the bike they are now level.

Haven't scraped since!

Mr C.

When you say "progressive", what is that?

And as for the slotting of the mounting bracket, are you referring the point where the muffler attaches to the bracket supplied by Cobra? I would prefer not to have to take off the pipes. I spent 3 hours putting these on at a friends house, who for all purposes, has an automotive workshop in the backyard. Although the second time around should take less time. Could it be that changing the spring would be enough?

There is one other option ... tell my wife she can't ride anymore but that would be dangerous

A progressive spring is a variable rate spring. The one I have is approx. 800-1200lbs. Its wound tighter at one end than the other. Basically it is self adjusting to the load. Spring

For the exhaust, you can remove that black bracket WITHOUT removing the pipes. Just loosen the 4 head bolts at the motor so the pipes can pivot. The top hole on the front of the bracket is left alone. That will be your pivot point. The other 3 holes will have to be slotted at the bottom right. Actually, the bottom (front) at 3 o'clock, bottom (rear)at 4 o'clock and top (rear) at 5 o'clock. Take your time. Just look at the bracket and visualize how it's pivoting and you'll understand what I'm talking about.
