2008, fuel injected.. Backfires when decelerating 2 Years, 10 Months ago

I am a new owner and I had new cobra pipes put on. I have the 2008 roadstar s. 1700 fuel injected. I am not a motor guy so i really don't know what to do first to fix the backfire problem when decelerating. It seems to do it a little more when the motor is warm. Im not sure if it can be fixed or if there is something simple i can do myself. Please help if anybody knows what my first step should be.
Thanks in advance.

Loud backfiring ...... exhaust leak ... check using incense.
Popping in exhaust .... Do you still have the AIS connected.

AIS is not the O2 sensor ... sounds like you still have it on.
If you don't have an exhaust leak then removing your AIS will eliminated the popping.

MrSuznoz:
You'll want to remove the AIS system as soon as possible to get rid of the flame throwing effect.
You can test it by plugging up the hoses and give it a run. You'll find that it will correct the issue.
The bungs that Doc is talking about are welded into the exhaust pipes. There are two total. They should be installed in the new pipes.

i have a 08 roadstar with 07 model cobra pipes. i left the o2 sensors out and put a power commander on it. i gained a lot of power, it sounds great and no backfiring once tuned right. the power commander lets you change the fuel map to a perfect match for your bike. it runs around $300.

Hi guys. New to the site, but I am having the same backfiring problem. I have a 2008 Roadie S. I put Cobra HP 2 into 1 pipes on; gain in performance, but backfiring a problem. Then installed a Power Commander. Cannot tell any change in performance and still backfires BAD on deceleration, except when it is cold. So far Power Commander was a big waste of money. Was told to increase air volume, (Yamaha tech) so I put a Hypercharger on. No change..... still backfires like a BIG DOG! Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
