New oil level 2 Years, 10 Months ago
Could someone post the dealer network email, tech bulletin, or manual page number to where it says Yami is recommending 3qts 12 ounces for oil now? I'd like to have it for back up if I decide to change my level.

Thanks

Pest.

I have Yamaha Service Bulletin M2007-002 - 2-16-07.

I speaks to SVS and it's causes. It does address how to check the oil but only states "The oil quantity specified in the Service and Owner's Manual is the maximum quantity." No reference to 3.5 qt.

I may have other Bulletins but that's all I can find for now (have been rearranging my drives)

Thanks Doc

I'm thinking that is what everyone is basing the new level on. It got started and just keeps rolling. Here's another thread where it was talked about - New level. But I could be wrong. That's why I'm curious if someone has a new bulletin on the level.

I remember that thread but I don't remember seeing anything I can put my hands on.

I found this online. It may fix the issues i'm having with idling inconsistently, popping exhaust note, stalling when returning to idle, etc... http://weislake.com/sig/mucker/2-16-07.pdf I originally thought I was having a coil issue and swapped them. No change. I will be checking all of this tomorrow.

This topic has been floating around for months but no one has come through with the infamous bulletin that says to change the oil level to 3.5 qts. I have concluded it is a misinterpretation of the bulletin on poor engine performance that has gotten spread around like a wild fire. In the bulletin, it says to refill with a half qt. less than specified. That is just one step away from using a half qt. less than the commonly known 4 qts that everyone uses. Walla, 3.5 qts. Things like this get started because people state things that are not fact. All the bulletin says is to prevent an overfill situation always refill with a half qt. less than specified. Nowhere in there does it say that the oil level has been reduced to 3.5 qts. People read or hear something, they process this info to what it means to them, and redistribute completely wrong information. Wrong! State the facts. Until someone can post up the bulletin that says the oil level has absolutely been reduced to 3.5 qts. the level is still 4 qts. for me.

Even if you go a half quart less then specified you still don't get 3.5 qts.
This is right out of the service manual.
Oil change only 3.9 qts.
Oil and filter change 4.3qts.
Completely dry engine 5.3qts.

If you subtract 1/2 qt from each you get.
Oil change only 3.4 qts.
Oil and filter change 3.8qts.
Completely dry engine 4.8qts.

Based on that I would say doing an oil and filter change, 4 qts.
Doing just an oil change 3.5qts.
