iīve ridden a few from evoīs to twin cam 88īs and 96īs, and personally i donīt like them.

- too cramped for a tall guy like me.

- feels too top heavy.

- seriously overweight, and the resultant power to weight ratio plus the wind resistance from the plastic makes it feel slow and gutless.

- felt horrible in crosswinds or riding behind trucks.

- too much crap on them (and from a mechanics POV, theyīre a nightmare to work on - probably why harleys charge so much per hour)

i ainīt brand bashing, and know a lot of folks who have them love them and rack up a shedload of miles on them, but from my perspective theyīre the antithesis of good motorcycle design.

If it's a 2009 it handles like a bike half it's weight, you can throw it around with ease and tracks like it's on rails. Much better at all speeds than the Roadie and smooth as silk, but that's just my opinion.

I've owned an 09 Ultra Classic for two months now and what RoadieFF says is true.

It is of course heavier 888 lb than a Road Star....because of the Touring Trunk.. passenger backrests.... Full Fairing with radio and speakers etc, fairing lowers etc
but the Road Star is heavier 774 lb than its true HD counterpart... the Heritage Softail 765 lb

And a Wing weighs in at 895-928 lbs

and you can change or look at the plugs without removing the gas tank...

Nice color

There is a Demo day at one of the local HD dealers next weekend. I was thinking of taking a friend down and taking out a Ultra or a Electra Glide Ultra for a test spin. I know I will always keep the Road Star, but I have always wanted a FLH of some sort.

So maybe in the future the Road Star will be a solo bobber...and a HD for touring?

Or maybe Star will put the Roadliner or Road Star engine in the Royal Star Venture Chassis and it will be a mute point.

thatīs just as well, because removing the gasstank on the ultra requires removing (unscrewing) the seat (and if the tail trunk is in the way of the bolt as on some, removing the trunk), removing the legshields (due to leaving no access to the front tank bolt), disconnecting 4 connectors under the clock housing and one under the tank, remove the rear and front tank bolts (front tank bolt - why?), and then remove that silly arse pipe that connects between the bottom of the tank that goes under the frame top tube and cannot be disconnected without p*ssing petrol allover the place.

harley construction and logic are two VERY different concepts

and yes, i work on harleys as well as other marks and have had 6 in since monday.

I agree, once I hit my "golden years" when it wont put me in the poor house, I'm going to own one. Never like them when I first started riding, but they do grow on you.

I was comparing the wet weight 774 lb of the 2009 Road Star Silverado S 1700..to a Heritage Softail 2009

Comparing the heavier touring Ultra to a Road Star Cruiser is like comparing an apple to an orange..like Javawave said... they are two different bikes
