I have owned a couple sport bikes, the first when I was 22. The last one was an R1 before moving to a roadie.
I did take my bike to high speeds for short bursts, and go through corners about twice as fast as I do on the roadie. But I also respected the bike, and knew the time and place for each. For example, I only did the higher speeds on a very familiar road, and only for very short duration. Only took the corners faster after having just ridden it the other way to ensure it was free of debris.
I am not sure if I was responsible or not, but from my riding experience, I was by far the most responsible of those with sport bike I rode with. It is extremely difficult to drive one of the 1000cc sport bikes within all the rules. However, I think people can have a balance...and it is pretty obvious a new rider shouldn't be wheelieing anywhere much less high speed on a freeway.
I don't get it....I understand the appeal of the rush...but not the complete lack of respect for themselves that some people have.

No disrespect to anyone . . . but c'mon guys , I see all kinds of posts here about "wanting more power" , we all tweak and fix our bikes as we was gonna be doing 100mph every time we ride , we all got a at least 1600cc motorcycle , why ?? because we like it , because we choose to , a 650cc motorcycle will do exactly what our bike does , but it is our choice to go this route
I am not saying I condone what this "kids" (I have seen people older than me do all kinds of stunts and I am 34) I am just saying that the kid is dead , sure he was a fool and did a stupid . . . no , a very stupid thing , but c'mon guys he is a biker like it or not , all we should be writing is "may he rest in peace"
We all are in danger , sure some push the limit , but if we as bikers don't try to understand or to at least show some some respect for someone's brother , father , son , or dad that just passed away , who can we expect to get this from ??
cagers ?? I don't think so . . . just my $.02 pesos
May he rest in peace
LOKO is 100% correct.....We want more power, why?? To go faster quicker, period. When I was and you were young did you obey every traffic law that you knew?? NO, and nobody that rode when they were young can say "Yes" to that.... And when some kid buys a crotch rocket and dies its because he is a dumb kid??....No, he's another biker that took a risk and didn't make it. RIP Kid..
I couldn't agree more.
We have ALL made bad choices, and we ALL will make bad choices.
My prayers go out to his friends and family

Me? Take chances? I could write a book about the crap I got away with! Just to make you laugh here are a couple, and you might have done these too??
I Ice-skated down a hill, over a jump and into a creek (just nuts)
Rode my 10 speed down same hill in both summer and winter.
I was doing extreme snow skiing before it was called extreme, we called it Hot doging
I skateboarded in a pool, with a wooden board and steel wheels (pool was empty) and yes it was a LONG time ago!
Broke more bones than I care to admit! Dated 4 women at the same time (that one almost killed me)
So yes, I've made some stupid choices, and live to talk about it. I still make a few, but now I use experience to determine how far to take it.

May he rest in peace I'm with ya Loko, If I did a day in jail for every stupid thing I did when I was younger, (I'm 52 and wiser.) I would be doing life without parole! I feel lucky to be here now and cherish life a lot more. I wish no harm on any fellow biker!!!

I feel bad for the kid and his friends and family. No doubt about it, but cases like this are what cause the police, the government, and Joe Citizen to push for tougher legislation against motorcycles and bikers. It reflects on all of us. *sigh*

I used to be one of those that said, "Well, there goes another one, good thing his genes are out of the pool."
That was before my nephew, and Godson, flipped his car on the way to high school one morning. The only comfort was knowing that he didn't feel anything. Having gone through that, and knowing that my brother is still going through it six years later, changed my outlook.
I know that, in my nephew's case, inexperience was a strong contributing factor. But it looks like that may have been involved here, too. As a driver education professional, I also know how overwhelming peer pressure can be. Obviously, another factor in this tragedy.

I just don't know what to say. I'm just glad that sport bikes were not around when I was a teenager, if they were I might not be. I graduated high school in 1970. During the age of muscel cars. I lost a dozen friends [12]..all of them over 100mph. It is such a waste. I really like watching moto gp.. but these guys a riding on a RACE track. There are no poles, curbs, fences or vehicles at intersections on a race track. It is just a shame that things like this have happened and will keep happening to our young people. Of course when I was young I was 10' tall, bulletproof and invisible..weren't you?
