If they total it out, which I'm sure they will, see how much the insurance company wants to buy it back. Typically it's less than $1,000 and they'll just deduct that price from the check they write you and they'll issue you a new Salvage title.

From there, you'd have two options:

1. If the frame and motor are ok, you've got a great start for a custom and a fat check to make it happen.

2. If the frame or motor are trashed, part it out and triple or quadruple what it cost to buy it back. Then you'll have a wad of cash and a fat check to put towards a new bike.

Even if the motor's trashed (you said something about the transmission earlier), there's lots of parts there you can sell off. Heads, jugs, side covers, carb, electronics, etc.
