cheap/easy stand-lift thingy....... 2 Years, 10 Months ago
hi guys, as i had nothing in the workshop to enable the lifting [and ultimately wheel-removal] of my roady, i decided to make something.....i realise it kinda req that you have a bike ramp/lift in order for it to work, but if it helps just one fellow rider, then ive helped-out
dead easy and basic, but works like a 'champ'........
just odds and ends of box section steel welded to make 4x side-brackets... and 2x box to slide over the ends, add some rubber-strip [bonded to the horizontal-supports] to stop any damage to frame-rails on the bike....and 4x m8 nuts welded over a hole so you can tighten up the pinch-bolts to secure [not really needed tbh, it doesnt budge an inch even if i dont do-them-up] but...i am if nothing else a bit of a perfectionist, so i like them there for peace of mind lol
few coats of black enamel.....and voila, took me about 2 hrs to cut/fab/weld all the bits.....and another hour to paint......cost? about 30£ or 35$ [ish] worth of materials
enjoy

one of the [2] horizontal supports with pinch-bolts [to clamp down on side-supports once slid-in] and the rubber strip [to protect bikes-frame-rails]

nice job on the stands, but how did you get the bike that high? I don't think my jack will lift it more than about 16 inches..

sorry m8, i should have explained......when i said it will only really benefit those with a bike-lift, i meant that i........

ride bike up onto bike ramp......
secure front wheel into the wheel-clamp on the ramp [could do exact same thing if you have a second person with you to support bike thus not needing the wheel-clamp]........
then raise the ramp up in the air........
now slide horizontals under bike.......
slide 'home' the side-supports into the horizontals [now you have the support-frames assembled under the bike].......
now simply lower the bike ramp untill its secure on the stands......
undo the wheel-clamp / tell helper that assistance is no loger req.....
and lower the ramp to the floor......

voila, bike in the air.....nice "working-height" and totally safe/secure

Ah, good ole American ingenuit... never mind. Looks pretty secure and frees up both front and rear wheels, where does the oil drain line up and do you have reference marks to hit it the same way?
