AIS Removal 2 Years, 10 Months ago
Notwithstanding all the EPA / legal issues, what are the technical mechanical benefits/shortcomings of AIS removal?

What kind of performance impact and mileage impact doe sit have?

Yours Aye.

No performance and mileage impact.

Cosmetic and solves the popping noise in the exhaust, which is espcially noticable in non-baffled (aftermarket) pipes.

Its supper easy to do also. Minimal wrench time and man alive it cleans up the front end of the motor, you'll be shocked at how much cleaner it is. That motor HAS to run cooler!

No real performance change for me. Much cleaner look and no poping on decel from the exaust.
Mine used to sound like a " jake brake" on decel with my Vance and Hines long shots.
Cheers

Just did mine about three weeks ago. Maybe its just me but mine "seems" to run with less restriction now. I run Hard Krome 3" pipes that would pop like crazy on decel. Thats all gone now. I also like the looks with all that crap removed from my engine.

Just your imagination

All the AIS does is inject air into the exhaust pipe.

Mine still pops a little on decel when it is cold and I had closed the choke. Normal IMO.

If it pops on decel after it is warmed up, 15 minutes or more, it is probably a "little" lean.

Just a note that's been posted before:

If you do the AIS removal kit on the '04 and up, the cap that came in the kit for blocking off the intake manifold nipple was way bigger than it needed to be, so I spent a $1-something at Pep Boys and got a package of 3/16" caps. Much better fit.
