Re:Bad Gas Mileage 2 Years, 11 Months ago
Sorry for the lack of information. I think the needle is on the 3rd groove from top. Will have to check that to be sure.

Most of my riding is around town and I would like to see mileage in the high 30's as shown here by members for city riding. I don't go full throttle much at all. I do, however, ride faster than most people I ride with using from 1/3 to 1/2 throttle quite often. I would think my mileage should be better than 30 mpg. I don't know what it was when the bike was stock.

I have a 2006 Roadstar 1700
Dyna 3000 ignition set at 32a (will have to check that too, but pretty sure I went with a conservative setting.)
Twin Velocity air cleaner
Cobra Speester shorts w/baffles
ported intake from Barons
AIS removed

DJ165 main jet
37.5 pilot jet (as instructed by Kuryakyn jetting procedures for Twin Velocity)
needle clip on 3rd groove
PMS about 2 1/4 turns out
moved locking nut on accelerator pump lever and adjusted pump shot for minimal amount necessary

Other mods:
Memphis Shades fat shield
Wind Whippers lower deflectors
Rear brake bracket extended (I cut and welded extension and powder coated black Much more comfortable having use of the full right floorboard)
Driver's backrest (made my own bracket, powder coated it black)
Currently fabbing my own sissy bar to use with stock Yamaha side braces
Installed rear turn signal/running lights kit from No Pork. Really lights up the rear end over stock by having red LED's lit all the time for running and when I brake I can see the vehicle behind me light up in red!

FYI: Regarding powder coating; It works great and is very addictive. I can't wait to fab more stuff for my bike and my drag car so I can do more. The gloss black is great and I'm looking to try candy red soon since my bike is that color.
The finish is really nice and the smoothness can be controlled by how much powder is on the piece. I actually added more powder to a piece that just came out of the oven that was showing a little orange peel and just like paint, it flowed out smoothly as I was spraying since the part was already hot the powder melted on contact. It's a lot of fun and very durable.
Downside: The chrome does not look like chrome (pretty much knew that, but hoped it would be better than it is) It is a very shiny silver, but not chrome. I'll add some pics shortly.
