do need to jet the carb if you pull the baffles? 2 Years, 10 Months ago
I just got (7days ago) a 2001 Roadstar 1600 and i have pulled out the baffles. The exhaust is V&H (type) Long shots. I love the sound and will put them back in if need be, but for now they are staying out. I have a few friends with H/D's and they keep telling me i need to get it rejetted ASAP. I have not noticed and power loss and frankly the bike seems fine. Do really need to get it rejetted? if so, what are the issues if i put a few hundred miles on the bike without putting the baffles back in? Thanks in advance

Conrad

Do you have the OEM air box or an open filter? If you have the stock box, Then no. If you have an open air filter (less restriction) then It should have been jetted before you picked it up. Even so, I wouldn't think you would need to rejet just for pulling baffles. They just make the sound "bounce" around before coming out of the pipes. The baffles don't really restrict that much IMO. Oh, and...

It is an after markey air intake and the guy indicated he had it jetted a few years back... I had a feeling that the HD dealership may be taking my buddy for a ride as he wants to pull his baffles out as well. I don't think he likes a yamaha that sounds better than his. Thanks again... safe riding

If it's running well, and you're not getting any decel popping, Then I think you're good to go. Enjoy your ride.

Yeh, between the V&H pipes and an aftermarket air cleaner... it's almost certainly already been rejetted... and then, if you're running well, you pretty much have your answer already. An improperly jetted bike just will not run well.

If it's running good, leave it alone. You will lose some low end torque though. And there is a possibility of more decel popping.

I had standard baffles in my V&H Long Shots, took the baffles out for a while and now I have the quiet baffles in. I didn't see any difference in the way my bike ran with any of the changes. With that said that doesn't mean the HD may not need to be checked if he takes his out. My neighbor has a 09 Road King. We put new slip ons, air cleaner and V&H programmable fuel pak on it. There is definitely a different program for it both with and without the baffles.

AS said above you should be ok if it was jetted for the airbox and pipes when they were installed.

I have an '01 Midnight with 3" Hardkromes. It's pretty loud like it is...but I'have wanted to pull the baffels out just to see what it sounds like. I have been hesitant because I don't know if they will go back in because of how exhaust systems get hot and parts tend to co rrode from heat and moisture. Has any one got any tricks or advice?
