I think I'll stick with the R* controls, they're set up like I like, and it is easier and cheaper....

I'm using Pro-One (I think) risers and haven't dry fitted the bars yet to see what grinding I might have to do . From what I've read HD bars are spaced differently so I might have to do some grinding .

This is great, already learning stuff (bushings and vacuum pumps) .... I'll hit the REV and checkout the wiring diagram. I have a 2001 so it should be close if not identical.

If you're using risers for 1" bars and your bars are 1" OR if you have the fatty apes and the area for the risers is stepped down to 1", you're OK. The only problem you'll have is if you buy HD fatty apes...their rises are 3.5" on center, whereas the R* risers are almost an inch further apart. That means the stepped-down area on the HD fatty bars is too narrow and won't fit into our risers. If you buy the fatter apes, buy for the Road Star specifically or at least a metric so the 1" area fits in the risers. The 12" HD apes I have on mine now fit in the risers, but I had got fatty apes for a VTX, so the area that's stepped down from 1.25" to 1" is plenty wide.

Do that, and no grinding required.

its under the "Raising the Bars - FAQ" section. Should be first listed one.

HD has a 3 1/2" spacing between the riser mounts. Yamaha is 4". So if the bars are made for HD, then they are made to fit the 3 1/2" mounting space, and not a 4"...so if your riser is too wide, then they may not fit just right.

NOW...if you do a 1" bar....you are fine. Mounting diameter is 1", so no problem. Mine are 1.25", stepped to 1" to mount. My riser was too wide and hit the 1.25" part of the handlebar. (making any sense?)

Boodie, if you do Yamaha controls, you won't need the wiring diagram, that is for going from HD to Yamaha. If you stay Yamaha, you just need to extend the wires.

Sweet. 1" bars so no grinding .

Thanks, Jason19 you just saved me lots of time not having to look for a wiring diagram that doesn't apply.

I can get you cables and brake hose for the project. Barnett SS cables are $44.55 each for the throttle and $53.00 for the clutch. List is $64.08 & $76.60. It takes Barnett a week to make the cables up, then it takes a week for UPS to get them to me, Then I have to resend them to you which can be 1 to 10 days depending on where you are. Barnetts charge for cables is a flat rate up to +12; for the hose I need to know exactly what length you need.

and I was just going to suggest, that if you stay Yamaha controls, you can order standard cables, extended to the length you want, and Clifford can probably get you a good price there. And yeah, there he is hookin it up!

I had to do all HD on one end, and Yamaha on the other...paid a little more for that I am sure..haha

Clifford,

Thanks, for the offer, I'll have to look at the brake line to give you an exact measurement. I was thinking +10" over for the lot, is that going to be too much? I've seen lots of different numbers so am confused on the best approach.

What are the color options? I'm planning on going to a black and graphite color scheme in the "near" future. I know that the cables come in a carbon color (assuming that's close to graphite) does the brake line have the same option?

Clifford,

I measured the brake line from the resevoir to the T and got 19" and 17" from the T to the calipers. Is that about right for stock lines? I can't find the measurements for stock anywhere. I couldn't measure the throttle or clutch cables (haven't taken the tank off) but am assuming they are stock.

What is the damage on a full set (shipping/handling/etc)?
