I'll add my welcome too, Great site, lots of expert advice.

and formally introduce myself after a couple of years of lurking

2001 is a good choice...mine is a base model bought 4 years ago, came with Cobra Lo-boy shotguns (great sound, tho some yellowing), Memphis Shades screen and full set of River Road Luggage. Couldn't resist after the dealer cranked it, didn't even ride it (typical spring N AL rainy day), saw it, heard it and bought it same day. i guess i had a premature "roadgasim" !!

Well going through the bullshit of registering the bike with the dmv today was a low note, but on the plus side I got to weave around alot of yellow cones! Going for a longer ride tomorrow if the weather holds, out into the Poconos I think. The pipes are V&H I'm pretty sure, but not positive. Gotta say I'm pretty impressed with the lean angle you can get out of it, and when you do rub the floor-boards it's not a life-threatening experience - I like that. Anyway I'll post my trip tomorrow!

I have a 2003 that I bought in 2004 from a friend and at the time it had 9000 miles on it and the only problem I have had is with the belt chirping in the summer during hot riding. My bike also has a hypercharger and I have not had any trouble thus far. I have switched out my pipes putting street sweepers on it and well, my friend was to do this for me and did but did not rejet the carb therefore my pipes have a slight blue tone in a small area. I did get the blue out with some polish and lots of rubbing.

All I can say is that you will love that bike. I did take my bike in for that recall and it was not a problem before and still is not.

I truly love my roadstar.

I bought my 2001 last year. In fact, we just passed my purchase anniversary yesterday (7/29)!! Go R*!!!
Anyhow, mine is all stock, except for Cobra pipes and re-jetting. Bought it with 3,500 miles, just tipped 13,000 today! Not bad 9,500 miles in a year, huh? Paid $6,000. Private owner. What'd ya pay, just out of curiousity, if you don't mind me asking?
Good luck with it and welcome to the forum. I'm a newbie and I love this site!!!!
Carmen
PS, was in the Poconos last week, couldn't bring the bike, but looking forward to doing that. Where ya from? South Jersey here.

I have had mine since it was new in 01 this is the longest I have ever owned anything. I got about 40,000 on the odo but alas I have not been able to ride it too much since I have been working in Iraq. It is usually the 2nd thing I hop on and ride when I get home, the first may not apriciate me talking about her, lol. I have done the recall and other than replacing the battery twice has never given me any trouble and the clutch cable 2x.
