Hey Sigman, see if you can get them to replace the clutches for parts cost only, I talked my dealership into it and I'm getting some internal upgrades for partial labor plus parts.
I had a talk with the service manager regarding my collapsed lifter theory and asked if there was an upgrade, he said that Yamaha did not know of an upgrade but on a side note the new replacement is not the original. Might be worth a few extra bucks if it cancels the 98/1602 engine racket.

Oh yeah, make them save the old clutches for you so you'll have a 'working' set in the event of a later emergency.

Hot Rod Roadie guys .. Is there a 'dome top' or similar replacement piston that doesn't require bore or a different rod to raise the compression closer to maybe 9.5 ???
I just haven't searched yet, been kinda busy.

Max,

I know that they make dished pistons, in order to lower compression ratios. Raising them, I honestly don't know, I got a new set of heads for my T/A in order to raise the compression.

By the way... took my R* out today... got about 100 miles and it's running like crap. Took a peek in the hypercharger (air filter) and the whole filter is DRIPPING in oil! The crankcase blowby hose must be spewing oil. To me this sounds like bad rings - either someone didn't break the motor in right, or they trashed it while driving. Any other thoughts?

Drago.

Hey Drago, sorry to hear your having trouble, maybe the recall/upgrade - rebuild will resolve it ..

Something else I just saw that I am going to request changed by the dealership when they do my recall is the oil pump shaft per this article: http://roadstarclinic.com/content/view/142/164/

May want to drain and replace the oil Drago, folks have a habit of putting too much in and then it all gets pumped thru the vent tube and into the carb, you can re-route the vent tube to the ground and that will keep from dumping the carb, but you don't want more than 4 qts in it............
