If i'm having to back off the pms screw nearly all the way out would that mean i'm running to lean and compensating for it by backing off the pms screw all the way to the point that its hanging on by just a couple of threads...by the way its a barons pms screw.
I have a poker run to go on tomorrow I knew I should have waited a week or two before I did this

While I had the carb off again I put the 167.5 jet in and had the same results...had to back the pms screw nearly all the way out for it to idle ok....still misfiring on the rear cylinder....anyone got a stock manifold they want to sell...i'll put it back to the way it was and deal with running rich and keep seafoam in business.

Well, to be honest, I think opening up the pms will increase fuel on the stock carb, I have the HRS carb and opening it up increases the air. so I'm not really the right guy to be talking..but what your saying makes sense..if you put a larger primary in it, you won't need to open the needle as much..Also, if you have an air leak at the mani, it would give you more air than you need and you could be compensating for that..

Yep out is richer and you don't want to keep dealing with rich and SVS. That is a bad way to go even with putting seafoam in it all the time. To get rid of SVS and have a bike you can ride and not strand you in the middle of nowhere YOU MUST get rid of the SVS and get it jetted correctly. SVS will get so bad the bike won't even start and it can happen any time. Mine new got it at 3000 miles I rode it home and put it in the garage. Went out the next morning and it wouldn't start. Called the dealer they picked it up and fixed it said the plugs were fouled but I would get SVS in about 1000 mile over and over. They tried to jet it 5 time and never did get it right. I bought the BAK jetted it myself and got it right finally. I haven't touched my carb in over two years or more now. Trust me you want to get it right.

Gonna be porting/re-jetting in a couple months using the Baron kit and a poor man's BAK (till I fill up the penny jar again) to help dial it in. Porting ain't going to be a problem as I only gotta take the manifold off once (?). Suppose I ought to start stocking up on beer and tranquilizers. Good thing I got enough info from others here to at least get an idea where to start.

Looks like they replaced the stock pilot jet (#35) with a larger one when the air kit was installed, and going all the way out with the pilot screw would normally be too rich. Since you say this is the only way to get a good idle, I would start looking for an air leak. Did you lap the manifold before the install, new o-rings??

I used the old o-rings and i'm not sure what you mean by "lap the manifold" I did spray wd40 all around the manifold to check for leaks and it seemed fine. So do you think I need to go back to a stock pilot jet.

There are quite a few manifold that the surface to the heads are not even (a possible cause of leaks)take some 300 grit sandpaper on a flat surface (glass, countertop) sand in a figure 8 pattern, don't forget to take the o-rings out. In most after market air kits, stock pilot works fine. Usually, if you have to go bigger pilot jet, and having to turn the pilot screw out (richer)that much, an air leak could be the issue. I prefer carb cleaner over the wd40 to check

I'll head to Autozone and get some carb cleaner and give it a shot.

Got my can of carb cleaner and sprayed it around the manifold and she stumbled and died...so yep I had an air leak. I pulled it back off and lapped the manifold and hopefully that has cured the air leak and now I can go back to rejetting the carb
