Normal for BAK to spray oil?? 2 Years, 10 Months ago
Before I installed my big air kit I cleaned and re-oiled the filter making sure to put just enough oil to cover every rib as suggested in the instructions. Since the install I have rode the bike about 150 miles (over 3 days) and after every shutdown I notice oil smoking all over the pipes and below the seat. I can't decide whether it is the BAK actually doing the leaking or the crankcase vent hose that is plugged into the back. I plan to re-route the vent hose to a different location when the part comes in the mail. Is it normal for me to be getting this much spray out of the back of the BAK?

My money is on over oiling the filter, I think everyone has done that at least once....

Agree probably too much oil on the air filter. It should stop in a few hundred miles, and is worse with higher speeds When oiling give it a once over and then come back after 10 minutes or so and touch up any white spots and you are good to go. I know the first time I cleaned mine I over did it and got a little oily for about 500 miles after that. When I rode 70-80 mph it would blow more and my breather is routed down below to a filter on the rear horn mount.

I put my BAK on mine and I had the same problem. I rerouted the breather tube and it stopped. I thought I'd over oiled too, but it was just the breather tube.

I have a few drips under my BAK. I don't think it's overoiled, I'm leaning more toward the breather on mine...

I have a hypercharger, and I am SURE that it is the breather tube. That thing had probably 15 psi when I was holding my thumb over it, and after a 150mile ride it had soaked my filter in black crankcase oil. Not that it made things dirty, but it severely decreased my performance! You say "re routed"... how do you do that? pass the filter into the carb? Cap it? My trans am doesn't even have one of these confounded things, and all my mechanical knowledge is from the T/A mainly

I took the BAK off, pulled the breather tube off and pluged the hole in the backing plate. Then I put a longer hose on it, and routed it down the side with the carb overflow hose. I put a dab of sealer on the plug in the backing plate so it didn't leak any air
