I had similar issues until I added risers to the handlebars. Made all the difference in the world to my riding comfort.

I've said it before-Big hands big grips. Makes all the difference
For those interested in big grips take a look at www.coolsac.com . When I wrap my hand around normal grips the tip of my thumb is at the joint of my middle finger; when I wrap my hand around these grips the tip of my thumb and the tip of my middle finger meet. So the circumferance of the grip is about an inch more than normal. They have an optional built in cruise conntrol which is kind of neat. The grips list for $70 to $90 per pair with the cruise control $60 extra. I will sell them for $45 to $68 per pair with the cruise control $45 extra.

Ditto what Mark7 posted. 4" risers, and my hands don't tingle anymore (and my elbow doesn't ache after 6 hours in the saddle anymore either).

Ok, latest issue is that my hands - ok really just the right hand, goes numb after about 10 miles on the highway. Does/did this happen to anyone else?
Thanks fellas

Can you say CTS = Carpal tunnel syndrome. try grips, and risers to modifying your position. Also try different palm padded gloves. I use weight lifter gloves from Sports Authority, but they also make special gloves for the problem, just expect to pay to much for them.
I have had 3 surgeries on the left hand, and its only a little better. The right needs it, but I not feeling so good abt going under the knife again.
Also use a Throttle lock, and ride with loose palms seems to help if I dont use a death grip on my grips

The combination of gel padded gloves and a throttle lock take care of it for me.

I agree with some here, It's your right hand so it's the gripping action. I have done two Iron Butt 1000 miles in less than 22 hours both times and no numbness at all. (Stock Grips) I use Throttle Rockers, $11 and you can buy one for the left side to match.
http://www.throttlerocker.com/
I must say I have tried many such products and none are as comfortable, it's the way they form them.
I'll add that I have pins in my hand from USMC accident I would not be able to ride more than 30 minutes without such a device. So try them 1st then new grips.
Tip is to adjust them at 1st where ya kinda have to really lean on em to work em. If you adjust em up too high at 1st they can be too easy to apply a load of throttle when you are meaning to just feather it. And that can make you wreck, so break into them slow. In time you'll find your sweet spot and they will never move again. I have used mine about 25K miles. Better than cruise to me.

Also have a problem due to the death grip on my stock grips. Tried some padded shorty gloves off the shelf. Waste of money. Friend says get the ones' yachtsmen use on the sail boats. Very well padded and good construction as well as reasonably priced. Also have a throttle rocker and a clever lever. May rewrap the stock grips with thicker foam. I'll find my sweet spot yet.

The Iso grips and the throttle boss eliminate those sore hands, great on long rides.

I have Iso grips, apes, throttle lock, and padded gloves and I still get "numb" hand. I found that not griping the handle bars so dang hard was the answer. Relax. Ride a little loose.

You all need a throttle rocker. That way you can rest your palm on the throttle and wrap your fingers around it instead of gripping it. I learned my lesson when i had a single cylinder 500 as my first bike.
