Front end shimmy... 2 Years, 9 Months ago
Let go of my handle bars at about 35mph yesterday and the front end started to shimmy. I stopped at a cycle mechanic today and he told me not to let go of the handle bars! It wasn't doing it before and I'm concerned...but he didn't seem to be. What do you think could be causing this?

Thanks in advance from a newbie rider and a newbie to this forum.

Joe

It could be a couple of things. Your neck bearings might be a little loose, or your tire might be cupped. I'm sure some one will chime in and have a few other things it might be.

Check your tire pressure first! If it is low this will cause your front to shimmy.

When my tires were in need of changeing. My 04 RS would shimmy also. Now with new tires it is very stable.

Welcome to the sight I have an 07 my neck bearings were not tight enough with the bike on my stand the handle bars would flop from side to side hard. It is easy enough to tighten them up.check tech section I dont know why our bikes dont hold tire pressure but they dont check your tires weekly that will wear your tires and cause cupping that will cause the vibration
