The mechanic's response kind of reminded me of the old vaudeville joke,
Man: Doc, it hurts when I do this (man flaps his arms)
Doc: Then don't do that!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I made an appointment with my dealer's mechanic for the end of the week.

Hello

I good way to check if its the steering head is to jack it up and see if the front end just flops from side to side

easy fix losen the side bolts on the triple tree , remove the top nut , and remove the instrument cover a inch back place a towel on the tank and lift your bars and triple tree right off the front end

remove the lock sleeve losen the lock nut and tighten the head with channel locks and a rag

finger tighten the lock nut and replace the lock sleeve

see if you have added resistance to the front end and check to make sure it will move from side to side with out any obstructions

and re-install the assembly and go for a ride

you will see everything is fixed worked great for my bike increased the handling properties as well

let me know if this helps

good luck

Arcturus

Sounds easy enough. How long does this take?

thanks,

As I said in the other thread, maybe 3 hours if you polish the chrome that you can't reach with the parts on.

Two hours if you have everything at hand and don't polish the chrome.

Re:Front end shimmy... 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I know this is an old post, but I am having a similar problem. I have a 03 Roadstar 1600 and it has 13k miles on it. I had put on 1 1/4 in drag bars. I currently have 13in apes, but when I had the drags on at highway speeds it would shimmy alittle. I noticed if I took one hand off it would correct itself. I have had a few peers say that it could be arodinamics but I don't really believe that. The bars were made for the roadstar. I too had the shop check the neck nut and they said it was up to spec? my tires are both new metzlers. I trust the shop I took it to they are really good at what they do, but I would like to put the drags back on, but not if they are gonna shimmy. Please help. Also does anyone have pics of tightening the neck nut?
Thanks,
Josh
