Broken lifter 2 Years, 9 Months ago
Hello guys, I'm a new one!
Have a Roadie 2003 with only 7000km on the clock. The bike was imported from the UAE a year ago and it's been mine since new. The bike has been serviced more than required due to excesive heat and dust in UAE. From the very beginning I was complaining about clicking noise and asked them to check valve clearance - but no joy!
This afternoon I opened the cover and immediately identified soft lifter on the front cylinder exhaust side.
Unfortunately, here in my country we have no variety of aftermarket parts, so we have to use only OEM - if in stock!
Can anyone assist with advice, can I change the lifter by only removing push rods and pipes where they sit?
Is it advisable to change both lifters?

Many thanks,
Skyman

skyman, what part of the world are you in where you can't get after market parts?also, your millage and the age of your bike tells me it might be a warranty issue.good luck , spudwrench
try e-bay for after market parts or oem parts for that matter.

There are a few automotive lifters that will fit it. might be able to get those easier... When you change out, I think you should change them all, also you may need a new cam if the old lifter damaged it...try a search on lifters and you can find the info needed..

Not in the US for sure! Thanks for welcome and info, I'll have a look. Although many cruisers are around, mostly HD's, metrics are also present. It appears that my Roadie is the only one in the country, forgive me if I'm wrong.

I saw a thread a while back that said jeep lifter would work just fine and even gave the part number for them. Go to the forum section and do a search for jeep lifters and you should be able to find the thread. BYE Skyman

Found this from a July thread -

"Musky said:

You can get Jeep lifters - HT2011. I would guess you could get them at any of the larger auto parts stores."

Need urgent help!
I've changed both lifters on the front cylinder. Only one was noisy but I replaced both with new OEM lifters (I tried to get HT2011 from Jeep agent in Belgrade, Serbia, they couldn't help as lifters are sold by different parts number). Anyway I've got them replaced, assembled, used a paste, adjusted the valves by bringing non-adjustable rocker down to the vent and the adjusting one to touch the valve as well. Inspection showed no visible wear at all on the lobes. It looked pretty easy.
After starting the engine, strong ticking appeared. I warmed the engine hoping that ticks will go away after the lifters get some oil. 10 minutes later and it is still there. I bet that I can hear both sides, inlet and exhaust.
What must I do? Thanks guys. http://roadstarclinic.com/components/com_fireboard/template/rsc3/images/english/emoticons/sad.png

You should have soaked the new lifters in oil before installation and/or pump up by hand while sitting in the oil. If you did that then reajust.
